i suppose its not a coincidence that the website that popularised within its userbase the aesthetic of reading rather than reading itself, that most ppl would be weirdly defensive abt what/how much they read.
that is to say, that weird knee-jerk reaction of 'wow this person admitted that reading as a hobby is subsidiary to other interests and their taste on it is not as curated as it could be, probably bc reading to them is just a form of personal highly subjective enjoyment'. obviously if you posit yourself as an authority over books and your range is very limited youre probably gonna be yourself very limited in what you say, and thats a shame, but thats it
fhdhdjs so many posts being made implying that if you read 10 books a year you are a fucking idiot, in general, instead of just probably not as savy as someone who reads a 100 when it comes to the medium
like i probably wouldnt wanna talk abt books with my friend who almost exclusively reads romance and ya, but shes still incredibly more informed when it comes to film as a medium than me, whose taste is exclusively based on what i like with my pussy and not with my brain
