Summer Altar!
Hello friends! I figured now that it is the peak of summer in my neck of the woods I thought I would share my summer altar, what it represents to me, and my holiday system with you all! A lot of this will be UPG or personal anecdotes so I hope you guys enjoy!
A bit about this altar:
Each element is represented on this holiday space, and it features pieces I have collected over the course of my practice! For most of the pieces you see I've worked with independent artists, thrift shops, small businesses, or hand foraged what I could! In my religion, I believe that the seasons represent which elements are at peak and are at their weakest so I used colors, shapes, and crystal grids to help represent that! Fire and earth being at their peak, and water and air being at their weakest. I wanted to represent duality, while it may be the longest days of the year, it also is a time for when darkness returns and creeps in again so I wanted to capture that liminal energy on this altar.
A bit about my holiday beliefs:
As some of you could guess, I actually do not follow the wheel of the year but rather a regional holiday and weather system! Because the wheel of the year doesn't really reflect how I interpret my seasons, my local farms, my local water ways, instead I choose to honor a special system that revolves around both the earths motion through space, but the water cycle! Each holiday represents a battle through light a dark, a legend I reflect on that I created in honor of the elements, and then a local system based on what's going on in my community! Community has always been a big inspiration for me so this is what the solstice means to me. While technically on June 20th its the solstice, the day burning brightest, its not the peak of summer for me but rather the last nicer days we have before retreating indoors. The hard work trying to prepare the new crops for falls harvest is starting, but the scorching summer has only just begun. it doesn't matter how quickly the night creeps in when its remaining at 85-90 degrees F / 30-32 degrees c all night. The animals prepare, and the fire smiles down on the earth as it regains its highest power over us. This season is both a blessing, a promise to us for the food to come, the hard work we share building a community, but also a curse as it casts us indoors, brings about illness in heat sickness, and the darkness returns over the land. The other elements in our area are active as well, air usually being stagnant and weakened, not a breeze of relief in sight as it recovers from a grand spring season, and water slowly creeps in, creating hot showers to feed the crops, almost to beckon us back into fall. The earth beams, as all of our forces work together to sew and till the land, and spend time together as a community.
Common activities for the summer solstice is summer cleaning, cooking over campfires and sharing a meal, getting active in your community and doing community service, land stewarding, and hosting grand parties! I hope you all enjoyed my point of view! I would love to share more like this in the future, and I would love to share more as I celebrate each holiday with you all!
"Modern folk witches don't strictly adhere to the eight-spoked 'wheel of the year' used by other neopagans. We prefer to watch our local landscapes and identify days that correspond to the shifting of the seasons where we live. The wheel of the year is a modern invention, and no pagan societies can be said to have observed all of these dates. It's best to look to the lore for specific rituals for seasonal celebrations. Witches who live in Australia or Iceland may prefer different dates for their seasonal rites. What's important is that the days be governed by the tides of nature, not the shackles of convention."

Happy first day of summer, Litha, summer soltice, the longest day of the year! Looks like it's going to be hot and sunny here, and I already spent the morning in the garden planting, weeding, adding edge bricks, and trimming back a few overgrown plants. Now here is my altar, all cleaned up and changed from spring decor to summer!

Happy Summer Solstice everyone ☀️🌻
Today I went to Avebury Wiltshire to celebrate summer solstice, it was my first time going and it was the most magical and spiritual changing experience. We had people play guitars, the drums, mediate in a circle, dance, tell stories and had maple leaf whiskey along with some cake and bread!
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer solstice!! 🌻

Happy Litha everyone! ^_^
A very happy Summer Solstice to all! They say nature is at its height this time of year, under the reign of the Oak King. As the days shorten, the Holly King will rise and defeat him, bringing about Autumn and Winter. Such is the cycle of the year!
Remember to enjoy the strawberries while they're still in season! ^_^
Happy Litha/Summer Solstice!
