Victorian Range (functioning stove and oven)
Ladies and Gentlemen; Servants, Cooks, Maids, and Kitchen Hands; finally we have the latest in Victorian cooking technology for your big homes, mansions, halls, abbeys, palaces (or, just busy kitchens!): The Range.
IRL I want a range so badly. If I were rich enough (one day 🤞🏻) to get a Victorian house, I will make sure there's a functioning range!
There are other Victorian-style functioning ovens on the Sims 4 cc market, but none of this style (that I have found); and it was something I really wanted for my palace; we have a very big kitchen, but only small sized ovens!!
I am really not good at building from scratch, so attempts were quickly abandoned.
THEN I saw @baumgarten-sims had released a small, deco range in their Thyme Kitchen set, and I thought it was beautiful! But I lacked the knowledge to make it functioning, and it wasn't quite as big as I wanted (as pictured below).
One of the issues I thought was a big problem, was that the oven doors for these style of oven all open vertically, and there is no Sims 4 animation for oven doors to open that way. THEN Felixandre released a big oven in their Estate set, which had similar doors, but opened HORIZONTALLY (as pictured below)
DING 💡 I got the idea that I could make it work.
So began the long and arduous, and frustrating, and complicated journey to make a functioning Victorian range in the size and style I wanted for my kitchens.
One of the first features of the oven that I wanted, adding to the realism, is that you shouldn't be able to cook anything unless the fire has been lit!!! In Victorian kitchens, the first thing done in the morning was lighting the range fire - it can take a while for the cast iron oven to heat up, and maintain a constant temperature. In The Sims, however, you can cook whenever.
BUT, in comes @littlbowbub! Littlebowbub has a Medieval Cookbook, and accompanying ovens where you have to light the fire before you can cook! Thank you LBB for saving my life, I don't think I would have been able to do it without you (or at least until I learn waaay more about writing tuning).
SO, Littlbowbub's Medieval cookbook IS REQUIRED in order to use the oven. You can download individual recipes (as labelled as part of the Medieval collection), as well as a starter pack; these recipes are actually very accurate for Victorian game-play, I love them. There's also a new "fine-dining" category, which has even more dishes for your rich sims.
With the Medieval cookbook, you also need to download Homestead Helper, this allows you to make some of the ingredients for cooking; I also recommend you download the Hunting & Foraging mod, so that your sims can go out to hunt for their meat, and forage for other things.
Now to the oven itself 😋
Like other ovens, there are two functioning elements on the top (these are the front, right-hand elements). All other elements have slots for you to put deco pots/pans, or anything. The far right oven door is the functioning one - the other two, unfortunately due to constraints, are just decoration. The fire in the centre is a real fire animation, and will turn on once the sim has lit the fire!
There's three versions: short, medium, and tall
There are five mantle colours, and eight brick and stone colours - so 40 swatches in total.
And, like everything I release, it's Off The Grid!!
I feel like this is such a big achievement for me, and it's really one of my favourite things!
Thank you again to Baumgarten and Littlbowbub for graciously giving me permission to release this - I am so, so glad I am able to share!

Kouign-amann
Salud deoc'h, tombler!
Originated from Britanny, a region in northwest France, kouign-amann (pronounced "queen-a-man") is dubbed as the world's fattiest pastry by New York Times because the amount of butter used in this recipe. The name 'kouign-amann' came the Breton language, literally translating to 'cake' ('kouign') and 'butter' ('amann') in English. Kouign-amann are similar to croissants in terms that they're both made from laminated dough, but the higher ratio of butter to sugar ratio and a abundance of sugar sprinkled on top make kouign-amann a more buttery, caramelized, and incredibly flaky pastry.
This custom content recipe is made by @littlbowbub (click here to download the recipe). It's another recipe from the French/Parisian cafe inspired collection -- because yes, Stella still can't get enough of those buttery goodness! You would also need Grannies Cookbook installed in your mods folder for the recipe to show up in your game.
To bake kouign-amann, you would need all-purpose flour, dry yeast, sea salt, sugar, and salted butter. A tip Stella found from browsing the internet is to use the best salted butter you could find. Breton salted butter would be the best choice, but you can add few grains of coarse sea salt before folding the dough in layers and across the top before baking.
Before starting, dissolve the yeast in a bowl of water with a pinch of sugar. Let it bloom for 10 minutes until foamy. On a mixing bowl, combine the yeast, flour, and salt.
Transfer the dough to your countertop -- or in this case, Stella uses a wooden tray. Sprinkle the surface with some flour as the dough is considerably sticky. Knead the dough for about 3 minutes until smooth and elastic. Brush the dough with melted butter and let rest in a warm place for 1 hour. After the dough has risen, put in the refrigerator to chill for around 30 minutes.
After the dough has been chilled, roll the dough and gently spread the cool but pliable butter on the left side of the dough. Fold the other unbuttered side over the buttered side, and fold back the buttered side like a letter. Chill the lightly floured and folded dough in the refrigerator for 45 minutes. Be careful not too let the dough get too cold or the butter will harden and destroy the layers when folded. While the dough is chilling, Stella preheats the oven and prepares the muffin tins. Generously butter and arrange the tins on a baking tray.
Sprinkle some sugar and drizzle melted butter on top of the tinned dough and bake on a 189C oven for around 40-45 minutes or until the top is deeply caramelized. Let the pastry cool briefly before removing the kouign-amann from the muffin tins.
One of the joys of baking pastries in this game is I get to watch as the dough transform into baked goods 🥧
You definitely need to wipe clean your hands after eating kouign-amann, but Leia and Sol loved it!
'Til next time, dag dag!
P.S. Salud deoc'h means "hello" in Breton, a language used by ethnic group native to Brittany. P.S.S. Detailed recipe for kouign-amann is taken from this, this and this article. P.S.S.S. Dear littlbowbub, if you see this post, thank you for liking and reblogging the previous post. It was an honor. Your cc creations are amazing and I have yet to explore them. Thank you for your contribution to the community! 🫶
Adding a Lil Spice to Simulated Life!
Remember how this blog was supposed to be in support of my gaming channel, by the same name? How about we catch up with what I've even been posting over there...like My Must-Have Maxis Match Food Mods*
*Including those featured on this very Simblr page!
unreasonably difficult Sims 4 challenge that I enjoy taking shots at:
(the main point is forcing you to focus on foraging, farming/gardening, and hunting, bc otherwise you die)
(this is mainly dependent on Littlbowbub's mods, but I think you also need the Cottage Living pack for the 'simple living' lot challenge. I've never tried this without also having the Natural Living skill from the fairies pack (I forget what it's called) and honestly I'm not actually sure if this challenge is POSSIBLE without that skill. maybe?? might depend on how hard a variant you choose. anyway. here's how I do this challenge:)
- download Littlbowbub's mods (the hunting + foraging mod, the homestead helper and various cookbooks related to that, the 'fires require wood' mod, probably a good idea to get the mini mod that fixes some of the off-the-grid recipes not always working right in said mods. other Littlbowbub mods possible but optional. other mods in general possible but optional though any mod that makes it significantly easier is.....hm. up to your discretion but personally the qhole point of this is it's Hard)
- start with a single new Sim, and a lot
- now, the essential bit! add challenges to your lot. Specifically, make it off the grid, and also add the simple living challenge. Littlebowbub's mods make these specific challenges harder than normal, because for the 'you can only make a recipe if you have the ingredients' simple living challenge, well....suddenly these recipes require a lot more ingredients. The off-the-grid is also harder in terms of cooking because now in order to use the oven, you either have to use a powered oven (and get the power for that) or you have to use Littlebowbub's ovens (which require you go foraging for wood to light the fire for it). There are technically off-the-grid grills you can use without having to do either of those things but they are Not in the spirit of this challenge so I'm banning grills
- you are not allowed to buy things that can instead be gotten via Littlbowbub's mods, e.g. can't buy seeds, get them via foraging
- your Sim is not allowed to go to other lots to fill needs that this challenge makes difficult. It's hard on purpose. use Littlebowbub's mods or be real smart about what you buy. e.g. if you're hungry but don't have a (functional) oven or don't have enough ingredients to make food....tough luck. find an apple to eat or starve; you are not allowed to go a restaurant or bar to get food that way. You cant just go hang out at a friends' house forever to fill any/all needs. If your hygiene is low you absolutely cannot go to a gym to clean off, but you have options: iirc you can go bathe in a river or smth using a mod, or you can get an off-the-grid shower/bath and use that, or you can get an on-the-grid one and then have to ALSO figure out water and power
- .....if you can afford one, that is. because did I mention this is also a rags to riches challenge? Depending on how hard you want this to be, after bulldozing your lot you can either
a) add a kitchen, which includes all the kitchen things you think you'll need but nothing purely decorative or that increases/alters Sims' mood. In said kitchen, add all the appropriate activity items from Littlbowbub's mods: homestead helper, cooking books, maybe the oven, maybe the crafting table. The kitchen is the only room you're allowed to build. Outside this one room, add an outside bin, a mailbox, and the appropriate activity items from Littlbowbub's mods: the sign, maybe the crafting table. Once you've got these things, set your funds to zero. (So you've got shelter, but no bathroom or bedroom or place to study/relax/socialise)
b) You're allowed the Littlbowbub activity stuff, a mailbox, and an outside bin, but that's It. Set your funds to zero once you've got those sorted. Yes this does also mean the homestead helper+books are dumped on the grass, no counter allowed for them. This means you have no shelter, no fridge, no bathroom, no bedroom, and no place to relax/study/socialise. Good luck!
c) as soon as you've got your Sim and your lot, bulldoze it and set your funds to zero immediately. because fuck you, that's why (strongly recommend putting 'buy Littlbowbub stuff' high on your list of priorities for once you've got some Simoleons because otherwise the combination of the simple living challenge and the ban on going to restaurants will starve you out p damn quick. or your sim will just get really sick of eating apples and fish, I guess)
Your goals for this challenge are, in approximate order of priority:
- Don't break the aforementioned rules
- Fucking,,,survive
- Make money. It's extremely unlikely you'll be able to make as much money as a rags to riches usually demands, you'll be busy not dying, but you should try to aim for being able to give at least $10,000 to any hypothetical children you may have when they're old enough to move outand still have at least $5,000 left for yourself. Or you can aim for the riches goal, which I cannot remember right now. Tbh depending on how many children your sim ends up having, that could be easier, idk man I don't know how you play on that front
- Try to have your Sims as happy as possible, and as functional as possible. ('Functional' at least partially depending on what if any other mods you play with, but also meaning try to maximise good milestones and minimise bad ones such as passing out (only if you have the relevent pack - I don't remember what pack milestones come from, sorry))
- If your Sim has a job, you should be trying to get promotions. In any case, you should be trying to complete your Sim's aspiration
I normally approach this like a legacy challenge, and start off with it (.......relatively speaking) easy, and ramp up the difficulty as I go, but you don't have to do that. If you do want to try that, then I am adding two rules
- any kids should be getting the good reward traits from being highly skilled and/or well taken care of, as relevent. at bare minimum, they shouldnt be taken away because they starved or whatever. take care of your kids!
- you have to, at minimum, have your firstborn child as part of your household (even if your Sim wasn't the one pregnant, and the father isn't part of the household. finangle it to get the kid in your household, or get the father AND kid in the household)
I'm also going to reblog this post in a minute with variations and/or suggestions on how you can make this whole thing easier/harder as you see fit

Monster Brownie
Looks like we’ve got ourselves a mystery, tombler!
I got busy and didn't have time to do more Simblreen food before Halloween ends, so some late spooky posts would have to do. Back with Stella Ito in her Chestnut Ridge ranch, today the family of four celebrates Halloween morning before the kids go to school. And what's more suitable for a family dressed up in the Mystery Inc. members attire than to have some monster brownies for breakfast? 🐕
The monster brownie cc recipe is made by @littlbowbub (click here to download the recipe). You would also need Grannies Cookbook installed in your mods folder for the recipe to show up in your game. Now, let’s do what we do best, Scoob eat.
Does this very specific purple ensemble with a peculiar shade of light green scarf give you any hint of semblance of who Stella might be cosplaying as today? 👩🦰💜
To make homemade-style brownie, prepare some eggs, all-purpose flour, powdered sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, chocolate chips, neutral oil (or unsalted butter), and vanilla extract.
Mix the dry and wet ingredients in two separate bowls. Then, combine them by sprinkling the dry ingredients over the wet one. Fold until combined. The batter consistency will be thick.
Her youngest, Soleil, decided to grace us his presence as he started playing computer games in the kitchen. Remember when I said "The next time we see him, he would already age up to a teenager"? Well, sometimes I lie.
Pour the batter into a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Bake in a 325F (or 160C) oven for 40 to 45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few crumbs attached. The beauty of video game is those brownies came out perfectly decorated right out of the oven -- But hey, I'm not complaining!
The whole's gang is here! From left to right: Stella as Daphne Blake, Leia as Velma Dinkley, Kylo as Fred Jones, and little Sol as Shaggy Rogers. The family doesn't own a dog, which I will proudly use as a golden opportunity to say: Scooby Doobie Doo, where are you? 🐕
They did some photoshoot before Leia and Sol went to school. This hallway is probably my favorite area in the house. Poses downloaded from here.
Detail of their costumes. I'm aware of special pack dedicated for Scooby Doo costumes Mystery Inc. Pack by Brianite Sims, as seen on Daphne's dress and Fred's sweater and pants. For Velma and Shaggy, I mix-and-matched miscellaneous CCs. Especially in love with Velma's -- technically, Leia's -- ghost earrings, which came from the Rougarou set by simstrouble.
Ending this post with one more Scooby Doo quote: Say, Scooby, kind of a spooky night, huh? 'Til next time, dag dag!
P.S. Detailed cooking process is taken from this article.
