but YES i love this!!!! i generally think this is how their proposal would go. nothing too special or fancy and no real like special date he planned for. i think barty just kinda thought of proposing to evan and just did it

eek i remember thinking a lot about this on the plane and after thinking more about it, i have my thoughts!!!
i think barty would think of evan’s cult as an advantage. he would think that it would be an easy way in and would use it as a way to get into evan’s mind. he’d learn about the sacrifice(either animal or human) and would encourage evan to participate into it more(i think if it was just animal sacrifice, barty would also try to get evan to go into human sacrifice). i think, really, he’d just use it to enable evan’s darker nature or something of the sorts. i also think that seeing the cult would help barty understand evan more as well. barty would also totally try sucking up to evan’s dad(who i imagine is also the leader of the cult) in hopes of maybe getting a way through to voldemort maybe.

i think when they first meet, james finds evan weird, maybe also thinking he’s lying about being isolated in the tower, maybe thinking he’s some sort of serial killer. it’s only really when they’re outside he realizes he’s not lying. i think evan would be a lot more hesitant about james than rapunzel was with flynn. a lot more standoffish, maybe nervous/scared of him as he thinks of the lies mother gothel gave him about the people outside

evan got sooooo excited about being outside. like he was analyzing every little thing—trying to sink into soil, trying to become the animals’ friend, just so excited about it. he’s had all these theories of the outside world that he made up during his isolation and he is determined to come to a conclusion to each of them during his and james’ journey.

i think james, once he kinda realizes that evan’s not lying about never being outside, would be more gentle with evan. he’d be more sincere with helping, trying to keep him safe. i think his saviour complex really kicks in here, wanting to save evan from his “weirdness” of sorts. maybe he tries coming up with plans to help evan fully escape from the mother gothel near the end of their journey or something of the sorts.
what they would be like/general thoughts
i think in this au james would definitely call evan rose or some variation of that
once evan gets used to james and is more comfortable, he starts asking him all about the outside world and how different things work
james would totally take evan on little side quests during the journey
i dont think evan wouldve really wanted to do all the parade things like rapunzel did in the story, so instead they just explored around the kingdom on their own and james brought some of the parade stuff to evan
theyre just so cute:(( i think they’d be a lot more loving to each other than they are outside of this au
evan would’ve totally saw bugs on the journey and hold them up to james(who i hc to be very scared of bugs)
