@apple-juice-lover-official for you!
cannot get over cj can’t tell liz no. as an extension of cj’s relationship with jed where she is often one of the only people who can tell him no with impunity it’s sooooo interesting for there to be this charming young woman version of him and for that to be cj’s kryptonite. and you expect me to think she’s straight
Charlie very specifically says "when Zoey and Ellie went to college" when he talks about the forms. And now this could of course be because for once this show got timelines correct and realised it's possible Liz went to college before Jed knew he had MS and it wasn't relevant yet. But also the potential there that Liz did not actually end up going to college because she was that young when she got married and had Annie? Is something.
I hate how criminally underused the Bartlet family is. I know it's not the point of the show but there's so much lost potential. The fact that there isn't a single scene of all three Bartlet girls interacting with one another is ridiculous (and no I'm not counting the camera shots of them at the hospital or listening to the carolers bc they're both 5 seconds and have no dialogue).
Liz doesn't have a single one-on-one dialogue scene with Abbey (the only thing that comes close are their interactions in the residence during Zoey's kidnapping and the Christmas episode but those are all group settings and they don't speak to one another directly). Yet there's an entire episode dedicated to Liz, Doug, and Josh on the Santos campaign???? Then we get a whole episode focused on Liz and Doug's affair set at the White House but the only person Liz speaks to is CJ. Now, don't get me wrong, I find their interaction fascinating but they couldn't have given us even one minute of Liz talking to Jed or Abbey. His office is literally NEXT DOOR!
We absolutely should have gotten scenes of the sisters reacting to the MS hearings. I want to know how Jed and Abbey convinced them to keep the MS secret. I want to see their reactions to Abbey losing her medical license and Jed getting censured.
Then Abbey turns 60 and none of them show up to her birthday party. Considering we have Abbey joking in season 6 that Liz is trying to persuade Zoey into making an appearance at Christmas really drives home how DYSFUNCTIONAL the Bartlets truly are. Don't even get me started on Liz and Zoey being no-show's to Ellie's wedding. But hey, at least they made it to Leo's funeral. If there's a tragedy, have no fear, the Bartlet sisters will be there, but if it's a good time they always stay home.
I know this is all just bc of scheduling issues and not wanting to pay for more actors but it still bugs me. At least it leaves plenty of room for fan theories.
thinking about the bartlet family again
need to decide on my own timelines with this bcs on the face of things in the first season jed bartlet has a 17/18yo daughter and a 12yo grandaughter (deeply aware that shes mentioned in the pilot and afaik never again and pilots always have their own lore)
how old is liz?? did she marry very young, i maybe get the vibe that a little like ellie she might have got married because of a pregnancy? would explain her being with such a hapless man and she does come from a fairly devout catholic family that's also politically visible (i think bartlet was a congressman at that point?)
if she was 19 when she had annie then we're looking at her being 31 in s1. from what i understand medical school and early career research post would be about 5 years in america? which'd put s1 ellie at 23. that leaves an 8 year gap between liz and ellie and then another 5 years between ellie and zoey which are quite a big gaps, especially for said devout catholics
getting away with myself here but been considering these gaps and their faith and the fact that canonically they cannot get enough of each other what's the likelihood of jed and abbey having lost several pregnancies? i think it could be a really interesting detail in their history and i think makes zoey's kidnapping that much harder - are they going to lose their last child like they lost these pregnancies, makes "all you ever had to do to make me happy was come home" break my heart in a whole other way, would he still be abu-el-banat?
after the party
