I swear, one of the most heartbreaking and shocking scenes in anything I've watched will always be the AOS 4x15 scene with Jemma and Fitz where they realise one of them is the LMD, but both apparently think the other is/don't know who it is. Like, the acting from Elizabeth and Iain is insane and feels completely genuine. The actual twist that Fitz was the LMD was JARRING, especially because I was leaning towards it being Jemma. The bloody emotive switches Fitz was doing, first from sobbing and freaking out about his cut arm to being c o m p l e t e l y deadpan and knocking Jemma out, then trying to manipulate Jemma into not killing him (and JESUS, SERIOUS trauma for Jemma) by first absolutely begging for his life, then choking her out, then holding her face tenderly and softly saying "Hey, it's me." And all this while she's viciously (repeatedly) stabbing, then slitting (tearing) the neck of, the exact duplicate of the man she loves??? And in the middle of holding her hostage, the LMD!Fitz drops that he was thinking about marrying Jemma (because it has Fitz's memories) and it's the first time Jemma hears about it (so the show stole that from them too). Like, everything about the believability of the scene is a credit to the actors, but even the actual plot is tragic. Which is true to FitzSimmons form, because they. are. so. tragic.
Like, this is one of their worst (in terms of tragedy) scenes because the hurt was more inflicted by one of them on one of them, and it's more horrifying than the Jemma-Leopold interactions, but there's still: that; them being trapped at the bottom of the ocean and Fitz giving his life for hers while simultaneously confessing his love for her; her going to Maveth and being in a relationship there while Fitz was losing his mind trying to find her; the Doctor making an appearance again and that associated tension; Fitz literally dying, and her spending two years finding the cryogenically-frozen version of younger-Fitz; her trying to gently break the news but him finding out within MINUTES that he and Jemma had gotten married, which he learned shortly after learning he died but before finding out Coulson also died; then finally, her losing her memories of their DAUGHTER and then him after they had a 4-5 year happy-ish almost-ending. OH, and forgot to mention when he nearly threw himself out of a plane after Jemma when she attempted to end her life to save everyone, after he had exposed himself to a deadly virus just to be beside her. And if my math is right, all of the above happened in 7-12 years. And that's only the events involving the both of them as it related to each other, let alone what they went through with the whole team.
