Norse Mythology Family Tree
Hugi and also a Logi I did on my sketchbook I guess
I’ve been thinking about Utgardr-Loki alot. Eventually I will finish his design because I think he’s funny

Loki & Logi
@imaginarythingy
So actually, let's blame Richard Wagner on that one XD
You see, Loki and Logi have very similar names, and so people tend to confuse them. That is the reason why a lot of people think Glut is one of Loki's wives, when actually, she's Logi's.
And yeah. In his Ring of Nibelungen opera cycle, Wagner and his librettists confused them, or maybe mashed them up on purpose because it fit their narrative? Anyways. This had serious consequences on Loki's depiction after that, because more and more writers and people associated him with fire.
In a way, they are not wrong, as Loki is the god of HEARTH, but more the way Hestia is, if you see what I mean. He's the warmth that protects your family and children. He's giving you comfort, while Logi? He destroys everything.
There's a tale where Thor, Loki & Thor's servants (*cough*slavechildren*cough*) Þjálfi and Röskva, end up at Utgard Loki's hall (yes, another Loki, but not OUR Loki XD), and their host propose them some challenges. And Loki is opposed to Logi in an eating contest (because Loki LOVES to eat, Mrs Harris, please remember that).
Anyway, Loki eats A LOT, but not enough, because Logi is LITTERAL fire, so when Loki eats all the food, Logi eats the plates and the table and eveything... Because, you know, FIRE.
Logi is the personification of fire, as his brothers, Aegir (you know, Heimdall's granddad?) is the personification of the sea, and Kari, the personification of the wind. They are the "elemental" brothers, if you will XD And their dad is called Fornjót.
Happy Spongecake Day! 🍰
And happy anniversary to this comic of Logi and Loki's annual eating rematch~
Logi is still undefeated.
(In the Tale of Útgarða-Loki, Loki is challenged to and defeated in an eating contest by the giant Logi, who turns out to be the embodiment of wildfire. Spongecake Day is a Lokean holiday that falls on September 4-5 that commemorates a time on Tumblr when someone got elitist backlash after posting a picture of a spongecake they offered to Loki ; and the Lokean community responded to the discourse with retorts, spongecake spam and a new tradition.)
