Well, it’s clear to say the Logitech G29 Driving Force is one of the worst kept secrets in all of sim racing. However, Logitech has made the announcement official, and pulled an ace out of its sleeve! In addition to the Logitech G29 Driving Force, we have the Logitech G920 Driving Force! While the G29 is marketed as PS3 and PS4 only, the G920 is not only for PC, but Xbox One as well!
Both wheels are functionally identical, but the G29 features the Playstation branding in the middle of the unit. The wheel uses the same dual-motor helical geared Force Feedback system from the Logitech G27, but steel ball bearings have been put in the driving shaft to make the wheel smoother.
The pedals are also an improvement over the Logitech G27’s unit. The brake is now non-linear, which would make it similar to a Nixim mod’s spring hopefully. I would have liked to see a load cell, especially given the price ($399).
Yep, despite rumors of the wheel being HALF of the official announcement, the official announcement is $400! That is $100 more than the Logitech G27’s current normal price, and this unit does not include a shifter. In my opinion, this is a risky move for Logitech, because that’s putting it in the price bracket of lower range Fanatec wheels and Thrustmaster units. Even with the compatibility, I’m worried that Logitech will fall flat this generation.
Sadly, it looks like the Driving Force Shifter does not have anything new to offer either. It is essentially the same as the Logitech G27’s shifter unit, sans buttons. The shifter is also the same price as a replacement G27 shifter, so I’m honestly disappointed with it.
I have a feeling more information will come this weekend at E3, but now we know that this wheel is official. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
