Sigyn knocked on the door to her cabin. “Strákar? It’s me,” she said softly.
“Prove it!” Narvi’s muffled voice exclaimed.
She sighed. “If that cat defecates in my herb garden again I’ll cook it for dinner,” she grinned.
“You can’t do that!” he cried.
The lock suffled open and the door swung towards her, the old hinges groaning in protest. She slipped through and closed it behind her. Loki stayed outside.
“Who was it?”
“What did they want?”
“Did you kill them?
“Are they evil?”
Her children bombarded her with questions. She sat herself on the edge of her bed and beckoned them over. They hopped up on either side of her, eager to hear what she had to say.
“Do you remember when you two found one of the spellbooks I told you not to read?”
“Which time?” Vali asked innocently.
“Vali!” Narvi hissed.
“I mean, yeah, I remember that one time we read a spellbook,” he lied, his bronze cheeks deepening in colour.
“Do you remember finding a drawing of a man in the middle of the book?”
They both nodded.
She inhaled deeply. “Well, that man is actually… your father.”
Silence.
“You never told us we had a father,” Narvi said, his brow knitting together.
“I know. And I should have.”
“But why didn’t you?” Vali asked, his expression just as puzzled as his brother’s.
“Was he mean?” Narvi gasped, picking up his wooden sword. “Don’t worry móðir, I can protect you!”
“No, Narvi. He wasn’t mean. He… he is quite an important person, and he needed to help people in another realm.” She didn’t feel the need to be too specific about his absence, and decided to leave out the whole ‘the gods also wanted us all dead’ part.
“I’m telling you this because the man I was just speaking to is your father. He has come home.” she told them, trying to ignore the somersaults her stomach was performing.
“Do we get to meet him?” Narvi asked excitedly.
“Do I have to talk to him?” Vali asked, terrified.
“Yes, you can both meet him. But you don’t have to speak to him if you can’t, Vali. He’ll understand.” she smiled reassuringly.
Narvi jumped down from the bed and said, “Can we meet him now?”
“Of course.” She rose to her feet. “You two stay here, I’ll be back in a moment.”
She pushed the creaky door open and took a moment to adjust to the brightness of the outdoors. When she could see properly, she noticed that Loki looked… different.
“I used a little illusion to make me look a little cleaner,” he admitted.
Sigyn rolled her eyes. “You haven’t changed one bit. I don’t know whether I should be relieved or worried.”
“Worried. You should always be worried,” he grinned.
She looked down at her bare feet. “I need you to promise that you will never, ever leave again.”
“I promise.”
“Good. Because my children-” her breath caught in her throat. “-our children- need you.”
His emerald eyes lit up at the word ‘our’. She couldn’t stop herself from smiling. “Now if you mess up, if you leave again, if you hurt or upset them in any way I will slit your throat and curse your dead body,” she hissed through her teeth. “Do I make myself clear?”
“I forgot how scary you could be. And Yes, I understand.”
“Good.”
She turned to the door and put her hand on the handle. She was about to push it open, but she froze. What if this is a bad idea? What if he leaves? Or put the boys in danger? The God of Lies is bound to have enemies- what if he gets himself killed?”
“It’s called a ‘door’. You pull it,” he told her.
She shot him a dirty look and opened the door.
“Come on, strákar,” she beckoned. Narvi dashed past her in an instant. Vali, on the other hand, stayed put.
“Come on, my littlest one. Why don’t I carry you?” she suggested.
He nodded slowly.
She lifted him up and balanced him on her hip. He wrapped his short legs around her waist and clung to her neck. When they stepped outside, Loki was kneeling in front of Narvi with his hands cupped around his face.
“He’s perfect,” he breathed, “Oh Sigyn, he’s perfect.”
Relief washed over her. He already loved his children. She sat down opposite him with Vali curled up in her lap. He hid his face in her hair, his body angled away from his father.
Narvi squirmed out of Loki’s grip and sat with his legs tucked under him.
“Narvi, have you introduced yourself?” Sigyn prompted.
“Not really,” he replied nervously.
“Go on, then.”
He cleared his throat. “I’m Narvi Sigynson.”
“Hello, Narvi,” Loki smiled.
“Why do you sound funny?” Narvi asked.
Loki looked at Sigyn, his face contorted with confusion.
“I think he’s curious about your accent,” she told him.
“I see. I grew up in Jotunheim and moved to Asgard when I was a little older than you. I learned Vanir from your mother when we first met,” he told him.
Narvi looked at Sigyn, puzzled.
“People say words differently, depending on where you come from. That’s called an accent. I think it’s quite a beautiful thing.”
Narvi nodded. “Are you sick?” he asked.
He furrowed his brow. “No… What makes you say that?”
Sigyn shifted uncomfortably. “Loki, they haven’t really seen a white person before,” she told him in Asgardian, “People with your skin aren’t really… welcome in Vanaheim.”
“Why?”
“Have you forgotten all Asgard did to us during the war?”
He swallowed. Switching back to Vanir, he said “Just like with accents, people’s skin can be different, based on where you or your parents are from.”
Narvi nodded again. “So… you’re not sick?”
Loki and Sigyn laughed.
“No, I’m not sick.”
Loki turned his attention to his other son. “And what’s your name?” he asked softly.
Vali turned his head to the side slightly, just enough to see his father. “Vali,” he whispered,
“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Vali.”
He reached for his satchel he had discarded on the floor beside him. “Now, I didn’t quite know what you boys were interested in, so I had to make some guesses. But hopefully you’ll like them.”
He pulled out two small, beautiful, ornate boxes and handed one to each of the children. “I know your mother won’t be all that pleased with me, but I would love to teach you how to use them when you are old enough.” He watched their faces anxiously as they lifted the hinged lids. Sat on a pillow of blue silk was a dagger, the silver handle etched with runes telling the story of Yygdrassil and inlaid with shards of obsidian and quartz.
Her eyes widened. “Loki, you didn’t need to buy us anything,” she breathed. She felt guilty- there was no way she could possibly repay him.
“Of course I did! I also brought some of my spellbooks for you.”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Narvi smiled. “Mother never lets us get any weapons at the market!”
“Because you are children.” she said through her teeth, directed more at Loki than Narvi. “And we can’t afford them.”
Vali carefully placed the dagger on the ground and stroked the silk cushion again and again. “Soft,” he muttered. “Thank you.”

After Sigyn showed Loki where all of the snares were, removed any prey and reset the traps that had been triggered, pointed out where the boundary of the protection spell was, gathered water in an urn and ordered him to wash himself in the river, she went back to the cabin to make dinner, leaving a trail of blue seiðr fireflies so he could find his way back. She poured some of the water into the large pot over the fire, skinned three rabbits, hung the hides and bones to dry, diced the meat, chopped up various root vegetables and tipped the pieces into the boiling water to stew. She also reluctantly sacrificed some herbs and red wine to add a little more flavour and impress Loki.
Dusk fell, so she called the boys inside.
“Where’s Loki?” was the first thing they asked her.
“I told him to wash himself in the river.”
“When will he be back?” Narvi asked, plonking himself onto the bench next to the cat.
“Any moment now,” she told him, trying not to sound too desperate.
As if on cue, a rustling at the door indicated his arrival. She opened the door and let him through. Shadows danced across the sharp angles of his face in the low light of the fire. He wore a clean set of clothes and smelled much fresher. The dark kohl that lined his eyes was slightly smudged, making his eyes look sunken into his ghostly pale face. She had forgotten the way his skin almost glowed in the dark.
“Who’s this?” he asked, pointing at the cat.
“This is Baunir!” Narvi told him, lifting the poor thing up into the air.
“It’s… blue,” he stated.
“And fat,” Vali chimed in quietly.
“Baunir… that- that doesn’t really mean beans, does it?” he asked Sigyn in a concerned manner.
“I’m afraid it does. This is Beans, the fat, blue, immortal cat.” she grumbled.
“Immortal?” he echoed.
She waved her hand dismissively. “I think it’s time to eat,” she said.
Narvi and Vali got three bowls down from a shelf and handed them to Sigyn. She reminded them that there was a fourth person in the house so they searched for an extra bowl. Vali managed to find one shoved at the very back of a cupboard so he handed it to his mother. She ladled the stew into the bowls. Three were filled to the brim- she gave them to Narvi, Vali and Loki, and she filled her bowl with what was left- it was hardly a quarter of the way full. After thanking Yggdrasil for their meal, they ate.
Sigyn finished hers first; she somehow felt more hungry than she did when she started.
Loki ate half of his, stopped, and said that he was no longer hungry.
“Please eat it,” she requested.
“I don’t think I could possibly eat any more. It was very filling,” he told her.
“In Vana culture it is considered very rude to leave a meal someone cooked for you unfinished,” she lied.
He leaned in close to her ear, so close she could feel his breath against her neck. “I saw what you did when you served up the stew. There is no way a quarter of a bowl is going to sustain you. You’re worryingly thin. You need to eat something,” he told her in a low, husky voice.
“Fine,” she hissed. She took the bowl from him and tried to slowly eat the stew, but her hunger quickly took over. She wolfed it down and hardly stopped to take breaths until all of it was gone.
She noticed Loki was staring at her in shock. “What?” she asked, suddenly very self conscious.
“I’ve just… never seen anyone but Thor eat so fast,” he grinned.
“Hey!” She threw the empty bowl at his head as he and the boys howled with laughter.
Loki had almost fallen asleep reading when she heard a loud crash followed by a swear. Sigyn. She rushed out of the room barefeet. Even with all the light out, she knew the way now, and made her way quickly
—Fuck— Loki heard coming from the kitchen.
—Sigyn? Love! Are you okay?— She turned on the light, about to step in.
—Nononono, do not get closer. A crystal bowl shattered.— Loki just stopped before looking down at the floor, seeing the glass all over it and Sigyn a few steps aways, clutching her right ankle.
—Alright, I’m going to pick this up quickly and I’ll get to you. Hold on there—
—Thank you—Sigyn said softly as she looked back down at the wound.
Loki found a broom and sweeped the glass into a corner to pick (properly) later and then went for a kit to treat Sigyn’s ankle. It was only a mild sprain and a pair of cuts on her feet, —I thought I could reach the top shelf with no help,— Sigyn tried to laugh but still hissed as Loki properly cleaned and bandaged her,—I was wrong, clearly—.
—Clearly—Lokis said and Sigyn hissed again— What? Too much for Sigyn The Victorious?— Loki tried to smile boh like a tease and reassurance
—Shut up— Sigyn blushed as she helped saw her wife caring for her.
—I think it’s done, let me help you up— Loki quickly stood and held out her arms to Sigyn. A pained noise came out of her mouth as she put down her injured foot.
—Back down you go— Loki said while Sigyn protested but sat again.
—This is time taking its toll on my foot— She grumbled and put her head on her hands.
—Can’t be young forever— Loki thought aloud— Okay, hold on to me, love— she smiled again.
—Talk about being young— Sigyn smiled— Loki, As much as I appreciate your offering, you haven’t lifted me in 15 years—.
—You dare doubt your wife? Oh, my pride.— Loki made a dramatic hand gesture as she threw her head back.
—Loki...—.
—No, don’t say more, I am wounded— the redheaded replied more dramatically. How could I—— she was suddenly interrupted.
—Fine! Lean down. I’m making you responsabile if we both get hurt.— Loki smiled mischievously and put one arm under Sigyn’s legs and the other under her back as she put her arm around her neck.
—One, two— Loki took one deep breath and lifted— three!
Loki couldn’t help her laughs she heard Sigyn squeak, holding tighter.
—See? I can carry my wife just fine—.
—I shouldn't have doubted the most obstinate being in midgard
—Nop, you shouldn't have, it’s a common mistake. — She breathed again— Let’s go.
Loki carried Sigyn to their room, being as careful and as fast as she could. Still, she enjoyed herself inmensley, carrying Sigyn in her arms like when they were young and with no worries in the world. It always felt good to hold her, especially when she could hear Sigyn giggling. She could see her smile clearly in her mind and could feel it brushing her neck. Loki was so grateful to have all this back. She carefully placed Sigyn on the bed and plopped on the other side, catching her breath.
—See? Time takes its toll on me too. Sigyn hummed and opened her arms, to which Loki slided into and snuggled up. She breathed in Sigyn’s scent and kissed her cheek softly. —Anything you need?—.
—Only you— Sigyn said softly,— Maybe that snack I was reaching for—. They both laugh and Loki got back up again.
—Loki! Something else— Sigyn said before she reached the door.
—Yes?— Tenderness slipped in a word.
—Kiss it better?—
Loki felt herself melt and approached their bed back again, leenig down softly over her wife’s ankle and carefully kissing it.
imagine if Theoric was royalty or at some point or decanted to the throne of Vanaheim with Sigyn as his fiancé ( promised through arrangement )
sigyn already knowing she’s unhappy with Theoric , would panic from these news and at some point would run away, in this time period she and Loki would at some point get together, this would Ignite the movement to bring the realms together and stop all the century’s of tensions between the realms that Thor has been desperate to put into motion
now imagine the drama that would ensue if Thor had to deal with his brother , being the boyfriend of the king of vanaheims ( kinda Asgard’s closets ally’s) runaway bride
and it would absolutely NOT help , that loki is most know through out the realms as “ a trickser,a liar, and a thief” and then see that he somehow just happens to have the missing princess of vanaheim , when she’s all like 🥰💛💪✨🦋🌼⚔️ and he’s 🗡🪓⛓🪄🌒🥀😈

One for a lesser known fairytale, King Thrushbeard - it was quite a challenge, but I think this might be one of my best stories :)
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
I also did an AU for Jane Austen, as I'm a huge fan of her work :)
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
And since I read a lot of webtoons and isekai stories, I also wrote a fic using all those tropes from this genre. Let's call it the AU where Sigyn is part of Loki's life from childhood, but with all her memories from the MCU (till Ragnarok) and she tries to save him and give him a happy life. Spoiler alert: MISSION (quasi) IMPOSSIBLE XD
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Oh and for the Christmas season last year, I wrote an AU!Christmasmovie for Jotun!Loki & Sigyn XD That was very sweet :)

Next AUs I plan to write whenever I have the time will be Vampire!AU, StarWars!AU and maybe Frankenstein too :3
On Instagram, I admired the lovely arts by Michela Fiori for a long time, and then, a few weeks ago, I saw she was opened for commission :D As I had just finished my fanfiction "A Jotnar holiday", I asked her for an illustration with Sigyn and Jotun!Loki and here is the incredible result <3
THEY LOOK SO GOOD <3 And so in love <3
Please, commission this lovely artist if you can :)
