Hi 👋 I’m a long time fan fiction reader, first time writing anything! I couldn’t get this idea out of my head so I thought why not give it a try to write it.
I’m a tad nervous to share my work and any feedback would be greatly appreciated ☺️ thanks!

✮ SUMMARY Loki was always insecure of his body and you're here to show that you love him regardless
✮ A/N This honestly came randomly to me while taking a look at Loki's design in Marvel Rivals. I was so confused as to why he would have so much armor/clothing. Not only do we get a glimpse of his skin only on his face but he also seems to be wearing a lot of layers too. And then I remember he is a Frost Giant and then I could understand if he perhaps had some kind of insecurity because of that, after all it would make a lot of sense. So that's why here's the fic because Loki deserves all the comfort and love he can get <3
ao3 masterlist requests
Ever since you started dating Loki, you had never seemed naked. Never.
You weren't going to make him undress if he clearly wasn't comfortable with it. You just accepted that he wasn’t comfortable with showing his body and you decided not to press in the issue. Even though you honestly wanted to.
You wanted to know what was going with your partner. Why was he hiding his body from you? He knew he could trust you, right?
You found him lying in bed, reading some Asgardian book while the lamp from the nightstand eliminated his sharp features. Whenever he was reading, he had a small frown on his forehead, so focused on the contents of the book. This time was no different.
You laid down next to him, watching as he was engrossed by the book, silently admiring him. The way his gorgeous green eyes were entranced by the words before him or the way his raven black hair had fallen onto his shoulders. Or they way he would quietly lick his lips without even noticing it.
But he turned to look at you, his hand putting the bookmark inside his book before closing it. “Are you bored, my darling?” He asked with a soft expression before putting away the book, his chilly fingers moving against your forehead to push the strands of your hair back where they belong.
You shook his head, Loki tilted his. “Then what is it? You look as if you require some attention.” His hand moved to cheek, gently caressing it.
“I was just wondering…” You spoke up and he hummed in response.
“Wondering, you say? Perhaps we can wonder together.” His tone was soft and encouraging. It made you even more nervous to ask.
“Why do you always… hide your body so much?” The words finally left your lips and your mind. You had been wondering for so long and now you wondered what kind of answer you were going to get. Was he going to lie to you?
Loki's smile fell almost instantly when he heard your question. His hand stopped its motions as he thought about how to answer you without revealing too much.
You saw the flash of fear in his eyes. “I-I do not…” He wanted to disagree, say you're imagining things or anything else to not have this conversation. But he knew he could not hide the truth from you. You were telling him everything, all your troubles. It was not right for him to hide something when he knew he could trust you.
He looked deep into your eyes as if searching for any reason why he should not share his insecurities with you. Any reason to have an excuse to not have this conversation. But he found none.
Loki let out a sigh. “I do not feel good about my own body…” He finally admitted, and you were not sure what to say. In Loki's mind, the silence was stretching for hours, even though it was actually just a few seconds.
“I must–” He moved to stand up, leave the bed and you. He was scared you were judging him, even though he normally knew you would never.
You grabbed his wrist gently, stopping him from leaving. “No, Loki. Please, let's talk.” He saw the pleading expression on your face, how much you wanted to help him, make him feel okay.
He sat back down, his hand grabbed yours as he was seeking your reassurance and support. He couldn't find the strength to look into your eyes as looked down at your hand.
“Ever since I found out I was a Frost Giant, I couldn't… I did not want anyone to see my body anymore. Especially knowing how Thor and Odin used to hate Jotunheim and its people.” He explained taking a small breath and continuing.
“Even despite the fact that I know neither of them hate Jotuns anymore, I… couldn't help but hate that I was not one of them… not a true Asgardian like everyone around. How I could not fit it, always feeling like there was something wrong about me and I couldn't understand why.”
He finally looked up at you, so miserable and hurt. You knew he was Frost Giant, he told you so yourself and you never minded. But you didn't think it would be a reason for his insecurity.
“You're still the most gorgeous person in my eyes. And that won't change, that I can promise you.” You let go of his hand to cup his face. He leaned into your touch, leaning a soft kiss to your palm.
“Would you let me show you how much I adore you?” Your time was soft and the question caught Loki off guard.
Once more, he wanted to disagree. But at the same time, the thought of you showing how much you adored him sent a shiver down his spine.
“Yes, please.” His tone was a little husky, his eyes watching you, awaiting for what you were going to do.
You let go of his face, he was already missing your touch. Your hands moved to his shoulders, wanting to take off his robe. Your eyes found his, watching for any sign that you should stop. But you didn't, you only found anticipation.
You slowly slide the robe down his shoulders, his pale skin revealed to your eyes. His breathing hitched, he felt watched, but not judged.
“You're so pretty…” You whispered, wanting to reassure him. He felt so cold, but not in an unpleasant way. You saw him shiver beneath your touch and you smiled softly.
As his robe was finally off, you gently pushed him back on his. Your hand slided down his chest as you decided to speak up.
“I know how it feels when you're not happy with your body. Feeling how your body does not feel right, hiding it because you don't want anyone to see it.” You said softly. Loki needed to know he wasn't alone.
Loki's hands moved to your waist, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I know, my darling. I'm glad to know I am not alone.” One of his hands moved to the back of your head, pulling you closer.
“Kiss me, dearest…” He whispered before your lips met his in a slow, gentle kiss.
As the two of you kissed, you felt something under your fingers and as your eyes fluttered open, you saw Loki in his true form.
Blue skin with some lighter marks and lines, and the most beautiful crimson eyes you've ever seen.
“Wow…” You whispered, eyes widening as you took in the view. He was lovely and perfect just the way he was.
“I hope the view is to your liking.” His voice was quiet, with a hint of insecurity.
You let out a soft chuckle. “It is to my liking. As you are as a whole.” Leaning down, you kissed his neck, a soft whimper falling from Loki's lips. And you slowly went down. You kept kissing him, giving him little appreciative touches here and there. You saw how he was letting go, relaxing under your touch.
You could practically feel him melt under your touches and kisses. His soft, cold skin felt so perfect under your lips. Whimpers and soft moans falling from his lips, along with your name. He kept repeating it almost as if it was a prayer.
“Don't stop, my love…” He breathed out, his fingers tangling itself in your hair.
“I am not playing on doing so…” Another soft moan escaped his lips as you said that, kissing down his stomach. It was going to be a very long night.
Premise: You know what they say: the good guy's dress in black. And for a certain God of Mischief dealing with the aftermath of his failed alien invasion, maybe exposing a secretive government agency led him to the good he needed in his life all along.
note: HE'S COMING BACK FOR AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY LET'S FUCKING GO THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND HAS RETURNED!!!
-------------------------------
“I think I should take the lead on this one,” Loki spoke from the passenger seat as she sped toward the location at speeds that surely would’ve had them pulled over and ticketed but she managed to avoid every possible cop car without detection.
“Absolutely not.”
“Come on, Darling--.”
“We’ve been over this before, Loki,” her focus remained on the road, but caught the pouted expression he bore from her peripheral. “You are still technically a civilian consultant and therefore are not authorized to be handling anything other than what is restricted to you.”
A dramatic sigh left his mouth, head tilting back against the leather of the seat. “But it’s a bore.” That earned him a scoff.
“Finish your training, slick. Then you can have a say in how things go.”
“But that’s going to be another three weeks,” comes his complaint, tilting his head to look at her, to which he takes a moment to appreciate the beauty before him before adding, “We’ve been together for years now. I do not understand why I must go through all this when I’ve been a helping hand for so long. Is it Agent K?” He accuses lightly, “I know that old man has it out for me.”
Her laugh brings warmth to his chest, followed by a grin she no longer can contain. “Because that’s how things are done, Loki. We have to keep some things the way they once were and this is part of that. The MIB had to do a lot of housekeeping when you exposed the existence of extraterrestrial life.”
“I knew it,” he shakes his head with a sigh, “He hates me. This is all his doing--he never approved of our relationship and now he means to prolong my membership as a form of punishment.”
“If Agent K hated you, he would’ve never let you be a consultant all these years and he would’ve never allowed you to become an agent.” She pauses to send him a knowing look, “Now he definitely had his concerns and doubts, but you’ve proven yourself to him. So please, my love, for me at least, don’t let your impatience get the best of you. Three weeks will go by in the knick of time.”
Loki stays silent for a moment, but ultimately relents, a small smile peeking from his lips. “I guess I can wait--I’ll still complain about it,” he points a finger up, making her chuckle. “But I won’t do anything rash.”
“Thank you, baby.” His cheeks turn pink from the endearment, warmth consuming his chest once more. Loki couldn’t believe where life had taken him since that fateful day in New York where one moment he was leading a Chitauri invasion on behalf of Thanos, the next he was in custody of the Avengers trying to talk his way out of a lifetime in prison, and now he was on his way to becoming an agent of the Men in Black.
The Men in Black.
The once secretive, highly classified organization deemed to investigate and handle good and evil occurrences by aliens, vampires, mutants, and all legendary creatures, now public and collaborating with worldwide governments to ensure Earth was protected.
Had the invasion not been on the scale it was, the MIB were really the ones who had jurisdiction over the matter and would’ve arrested Loki in the first place. Unfortunately, by the time they managed to get all the details of what the fuck was going on in New York, the damage was catastrophic and the whole damn world witnessed the event. There was no possible way for the MIB to step in and completely cover it up. And to make matters worse for the agency, it resulted in their exposure to the world.
Loki bore witness to the first time the MIB made their presence known. And boy just like the rest of the bystanders in Stark Tower he was captivated, and intimidated to say the least, by the flock of agents dressed in crisp black suits and sunglasses holding badges with simply a letter as their agent identity. K, J, O, AA, it went on and on. Then his eyes landed on a woman holding a sleep device that resembled a pen addressing a group of people near the doorway who were having a hard time processing what had happened.
“What is going to happen to us, ma’am?”
“I want to forget--I can’t live like this!”
The woman adjusted her glasses, pushing them up the bridge of her nose, “Well I can assure you all that everything you want to know,” she lifted the device, pointing to a glowing red bar, “is right here and all you have to do is stare at this little light for me and all your problems will disappear.”
A blinding flash filled the space that Loki had to squeeze his eyes shut to block it out. Unsure of what the hell happened as he opened his eyes to see the dazed expressions from the group. The woman removed her glasses, pocketing the device while removing a stack of cards to pass out to each of them. “Now, you have all been spared from remembering the worst of what took place this morning and I recommend you seek professional assistance as you navigate through this new reality of your life.”
Immediately the God was intrigued, desperately wanting to know the woman behind the blinding light and what it meant. As the remainder of agents dispersed to talk with the government officials and the Avengers, Loki took his chance to approach the woman who was now sitting at a high table. Pen was moving across a notebook frantically and she did not look up when Loki appeared next to her. “What can I do for you, Mr. Odinson.”
It took everything in Loki not to growl at the name, scowling as he corrected, “it’s Laufeyson.”
“My apologies,” she sounded sincere, and he relaxed his face. “Our records have you listed as the brother of Thor Odinson and therefore I assumed you two shared a name.” She placed the pen down and closed the notebook to place her folded hands on top. This time she looked at him, and Loki felt himself still at the beauty before him. “What can I do for you, Mr. Laufeyson?”
For a moment Loki forgot why the hell he approached her in the first place. Shuffling on his feet as he said, “I couldn’t help but be curious of the interaction I witnessed between you and those civilians.” He lifted a hand toward the group, who were seated in a lounge area with a grievance counselor. “What exactly was that?”
“They were nueralized per their request.”
His brows furrowed, not familiar with the term nor its meaning. “I’m sorry?”
“The neuralyzer is an electro bio-mechanical neural transmitting zero synapse repositioner that we use at MiB to erase the memories of individuals and replace them with something new,” her explanation was so formal it felt like she was a robot spitting off information, but Loki understood it was just the agent in her being professional. Oddly enough, it made him ten times more drawn to the woman, not to mention what she was saying was fascinating in itself. “However, given the circumstances of today and what it means for the future of our agency, we’ve decided to change several principles of the practice.”
“Circumstances as in…” he trailed off sheepishly. Knowing it was his fault the secretive agency was now exposed. He couldn’t imagine what they were having to do to adjust their operations. It sounded like a nightmare.
“Yes,” she smiled tightly, clearly not happy with the unexpected, and immediate, change. “But it was bound to happen sooner or later if I’m being quite honest. The minute Mr. Stark decided to announce himself as Iron Man, along with your brother Thor arriving on Earth, there were already plans in order for the MiB to begin public collaboration with agencies.”
Loki attempted a grin, arms going out in a dramatic flair. “So it isn’t fully my fault when you think about it.”
Her smile softened a tad bit, not as guarded and unwelcoming. “You could say that.”
“I’m Loki,” he extended a hand, pleased when she accepted it and returned the firm grip.
“Y/I.”
Now he was puzzled, “Y/I?” Then he shook his head, cursing at himself as he remembered, “Oh right. You lot do not go by full names. Only letters--forgive me.”
“Not a problem,” she replied, letting go of his hand. It didn’t take much for a conversation to strike up between the two. Long enough to pass the time given the place was bombarded by agents and press, everyone arguing over authority and what not.
Whenever Loki looked back on that day it felt like a lifetime ago. Pretty much was considering it’d been several years and he was now at the happiest he’d ever been. No drama--for the most part, at least involving him--no house arrest, nothing. He happily lived on Earth in an apartment in New York with his love and working for the MiB as a civilian consultant on his way to becoming a full fledged agent.
Talk about a happy ending. One he never thought was possible after discovering the truth of his lineage.
Thankfully it seemed most people were happy for the God. His brother, Thor, in particular was rather ecstatic as was their mother. Their father….eventually came around, a couple years after the ordeal when Loki brought Y/I to Asgard having been summoned by the King. The Avengers were relatively cautious--and who could blame them really. What brought them some solace was the fact Y/I was an esteemed--and no nonsense--agent who didn’t hesitate to put Loki in his place when he stepped out of line.
“I just think it would be beneficial if you--.”
“No.”
“Can I drive this time?”
“No.”
“What does this red button do?”
“Do not touch that, Loki.”
Then there are the times where clothes are mixed up. Literally. Loki loves a slick, black, suit. It’s his staple and given Y/I’s uniform happens to also be a crisp, black suit, there’ve been several occurrences where items of clothing end up in the wrong pile. Especially when they send the suits to the dry cleaners together.
“Loki, they gave me your trousers again.” Y/I will sigh when she unravels the plastic and notices the dress pants are not hemmed the way they ought to be. He’ll walk in from the closet with a blazer over his shoulder, tossing it to the bed where the rest of her suits are saying, “That one’s yours.”
Their favorite moment of clothes mixing up was when they attended a banquet at Avengers tower and were in such a hurry to dress, they completely disregarded that what they were picking up was in fact theirs. Y/I fasted the belt, Loki tied his tie. Rolled up their socks, buttoned their blazers, and hauled on their shoes as they were walking toward the door. It wasn’t until they were out of the car and up the elevator that they got a good look in the mirror from the reflective glass.
“Hang on a second,” Loki murmured, eyes squinted as he leaned forward to examine his appearance. Then he turned to Y/I, who matched his expression and looked down at her suit. “Did we…?”
“I think we did,” she finished the sentence, thumbs brushing against the belt secured on her waist. She typically wore Tom Ford. This belt was Armani. “This isn’t my belt.” Looking up, she caught his hands on the tie and let out an amused chuckle.
“I’m wearing your tie, aren’t I?”
She untucked her tie from beneath the buttoned blazer, lifting the bottom to see the label. Armani. “Yup, you sure are.”
Loki released a huff, but couldn’t hold back the grin from curling on his lips. “Should we switch then?”
“Seeing we are about five levels away,” she began with a knowing look, “I don’t think that’s wise on the mere chance we don’t finish in time and have to explain to our friends why we’re in the middle of pulling our belts and ties on in the elevator.”
Pink makes its way onto Loki’s cheeks, understanding her implication. “Understood--yeah, you’re right. I don’t need Stark jumping to conclusions that’ll have him bestowing another ridiculous nickname.”
Y/I laughed, squeezing his arm affectionately. “Awe, you don’t like Reindeer Games?”
“Don’t start.”
“What about Rock of Ages?”
Loki grumbled, playfully nudging her hip with his. “Keep it up and I’ll tell K you faked being sick to go to an Imagine Dragons concert with Romanoff.” He got her there, the agent parting her lips in surprise, but he could tell she was impressed by the loose threat. He’d never actually sell her out.
That would have him sleeping on the couch.
Another squeeze to his arm before she let go, “As you wish, Slick.”
Despite the many years together, the fun adventures, and the countless jobs they’d been on….she still refused to let him drive her car.
The vehicle came to a slow halt as she pulled up to a curbside space and began to parallel park so swiftly it had bystanders stopping to gawk. “Can I at least--.”
“No.”
“You didn’t even hear what I was going to ask.”
“I don’t have to hear,” She undid her seatbelt, cutting off the ignition. “You’re not to nueralyze. Complete your training, pass your exam, and once you’ve been fully sworn in then I will let you steer and nueralyze when the time calls for it.” Pulling on her sleek black Ray Bans, she sends him a cheeky smirk. “For now, follow my lead.”
Loki grins with a wink, his own Ray Bans going to the bridge of his nose, “I always do, darling.”

12 Days of Christmas
main masterlist
As soon as Loki realized he was getting pulled through time, he suddenly felt like he didn't have enough of it.
The problem with time was that when he would be pulled to the past, his present still continued. It made him wonder about the time he came from, where that version of him was at this point. It just confused him more, because he knew the TVA didn't work like that. He knew that the version of him he was supposed to be was no longer a 'present' being.
It was confusing and making his head hurt, though he wasn't sure if part of that was because of the time warping or not.
He was running through the halls, away from the hunters who didn't know who he was. He turned around for just a second to check how close they were before he was warping again, pain shooting across his body. He couldn't stop himself from running when he saw someone appear in front of him, so he ended up tripping over them and sending them both to the ground.
"Sorry," He was already pushing himself up and beginning to run before he saw their face. It stopped him dead in his tracks, slipping to the ground as he took her in.
"What's got you in such a rush?" She asked, brows furrowing.
"Y/N," He whispered. She was wearing the robes he'd seen Rayvonna wear, looking more regal than she had even in Asgard. Her head cocked as her eyebrows raised. She was clearly confused.
"Are you alright?" She doesn't recognize him.
This hurts worse than Mobius. It hurts because Y/N is his person. Y/N is his. They were close on Asgard, always causing trouble together. When she was sent away to study, Loki had rebelled even harder. It's why he tried to take over Midgard. Looking back, it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but originally he was hoping
"It's me, Loki!" He knows it's not worth the effort, knows that she's had her memory wiped, probably multiple times. But he can't help but beg, can't help but hope against hope. He doesn't even want to think about what made her end up at the TVA.
The last time he saw Y/N, it was bad.
He didn't like to think about it. Which was funny, because it didn't stop him from thinking about it as much as possible. All he could think about was how he left them. How he let her be banished, too afraid to be banished himself. How he cried that night, so hard his mother was called.
He had been on his way to find Y/N when the TVA took him.
"Are you okay?" She asks, looking at his dirtied shirt and the cut on his arm that he couldn't even feel anymore.
"No, no," He cannot handle Y/N not remembering him. This version of her is close to the most recent version he remembers. He tries to figure out if she's different, but he can't. This is Y/N. She is his.
"It's alright," She says, though it's clear she doesn't actually think it's fine. She's looking at him like he's crazy.
Maybe he is.
"I'm gonna leave, I can't," He feels sick until a thought enters his head. He could just enchant her.
"I should call someone," She says, her fake-nice voice on. Loki doesn't take time to apologize, simply putting a hand to her head.
It doesn't take much searching for him to find her memories. He never thought He Who Remains actually took them, that'd be impossible. They're always hidden, and he would search as long as it takes.
Except he can't, because as soon as he pulls back and sees her, sees the realization dawn on her face, he can feel it.
"You can't tell anyone you know, it's not safe!" He rushes out as he warps through time once more. He looks around, realizing he was in the present now. Mobius is looking at him in awe, pulling him close and hugging him.
"Loki, you're really back!" He says, clearly excited about his friend's return.
"Y/N's here." Loki mutters, still in shock. He's hugging Mobius back, but lightly, because he can't really think about anything but the woman that has haunted his dreams since he came to the TVA.
"What?" Mobius mutters, pulling back.
"She was, I saw her," Loki looks around, as if she'll be there.
"We'll find her, Loki." Mobius tries to console, but Loki is already walking down the hall. He just needs to find her, even if she doesn't remember, because he can make her remember again. She just needs to be there.
It's almost as if he hadn't felt her loss deeply. He hadn't had the time, too busy rebelling against his father for crowning Thor when he was the rightful heir. Knowing where she was, knowing that she had been stuck here for God knows how long, it made him sick. He had no idea how long it had been since he had given her memories back.
"Have you seen her?" Loki asks, describing her appearance as quick as he can as they walk through the TVA.
"Actually, yeah," Mobius pauses, causing Loki to turn. "She was friends with Rayvonna. I think her office was right next to her's!" The two of them turn to begin on the path to the offices when Loki ran straight into someone.
"Loki!" Y/N threw her arms around him, letting him hold her close. "Oh God, I thought you'd never come back. I thought you'd never find me." She whispered, trying not to cry.
"I'll always find you." He kissed the side of her head, tucked into the side of his shoulder and tried to keep the tears at bay. "Always."

A/N: chapter 1 is here!! I'm gonna try to upload weekly. I'll try to stay somewhat canon-compliant but since I kind of diverged during the season 1 finale, not everything will be the exact same as the show (obv). Enjoy!
It’s hard being in a place outside of time.
Your life drags on, but there’s nothing to quantify it; no way to measure your loneliness or your work. But - if you had to guess - it would be somewhere close to eternity.
You hadn’t slept once since He Who Remains passed. It was peaceful, just like he’d hoped. And it was a stark reminder that despite everything, he was still just a human being.
“You must protect the timeline,” he whispered to you on his deathbed. “My variants…if they come -”
“I won’t let them,” you interrupted. “I’m not scared.”
“You should be,” he said, voice quivering. “The Conqueror. He has no hesitation, no restraint. He is a vessel of destruction. I am a vessel of destruction.”
You took his shaking hand, gripping it tightly. Your heart thumped in your chest, nearly blocking out all other sounds. It was like someone was squeezing your ribs, blocking any air from coming in.
“Everything will be okay,” you promised.
It was a lie.
- - -
“No, no, no, no,” you repeated to yourself.
You were running around the citadel, from TemPad to TemPad, document to document. It was a mess - books scattered across the floor and cracks breaking apart the marble walls.
“Miss Minutes!” You called.
“Yes?”
You shrieked at the sudden voice and whipped around to find the orange clock floating behind you.
“Why isn’t Renslayer answering my calls?” You questioned.
Miss Minutes wasn’t taking your succession of Time too well. She met every question or command you gave with an eye roll or a snarky comment.
“I already told you,” she said, exasperated. “I don’t know.”
“Your job is literally to know everything,” you snapped, slamming a document down onto your desk.
“Hey!” She retorted. “You watch your tone with me, missy. Judge Renslayer is completely off the grid. I can’t track her or her TemPad anywhere.”
“Can’t or won’t?” You asked.
Miss Minutes didn’t answer. She simply scoffed and crossed her orange arms.
“You see that?”
You pointed out the window - to the Sacred Timeline beyond the Citadel. Except, it didn’t look the same as when you arrived. Instead of a beautiful blend of neon hues in one direction, streaks were going in all different directions. Branches, and they were growing fast.
“If I can’t contact the TVA’s head judge, then we can’t create a plan to stop this branching!”
You were screaming at this point, more to yourself than Miss Minutes.
“This never happened under He Who Remains,” Miss Minutes argued, pointing her gloved finger at you. “This problem started as soon as you took over.”
You glared daggers at the AI, but she wasn’t wrong. You had promised to protect and uphold Time, to prevent a multiversal war. All you had accomplished since you took over was making it worse.
“It’s not just me,” you tried to reason. “The TVA is falling apart. Now that we - the employees - know they’re variants, they’re either going back to their place on the timeline or refusing to prune. It’s a disaster!”
You plopped onto your desk chair, burying your head in your hands. Your nails picked at your scalp, pulling hair and skin out of frustration.
“This is your responsibility now,” Miss Minutes told you coldly. “If the TVA isn’t working right, get down there and fix it yourself.”
And with that, she was gone. The only person - and you use ‘person’ loosely - you had to talk to.
You sniffled into your sleeve. It was a blue sweater, warm and soft. It might appear mundane, but it was the only piece of clothing you’d worn that wasn’t your TVA uniform. It wasn’t supposed to be defined by your job, but you. Yet here you were sniffling into it as you crumbled under the pressure of your choices.
“I can’t fix it. Why can’t I fix it?” You scolded yourself as tears cascaded down your cheeks.
Miss Minutes’s words echoed in your head.
Get down there and fix it yourself.
Your eyes narrowed at the TemPad that sat on the desk before you. You wiped your eyes on your sleeve before grabbing the device and activating a Time Door.
You walked toward it, prepared to enter when something caught your eye. Your old TVA jacket lay scattered on the floor in the corner, still caked in blood from when you fought Sylvie and Loki. The memories flashed through your mind, and you winced. You pictured an alternate timeline where everything worked out perfectly. You and Loki together in a beautiful house. You would get a high position at a tech company as he spends his days exploring human literature and making amends for his past. Sylvie peacefully traipsing the countryside, finally having that chip off her shoulder. Mobius visiting you and Loki, sharing stories about his jet ski rides.
If only reality were as perfect as dreams.
Before you could talk yourself out of it, you ran and grabbed the jacket from the floor. It slipped on easily, like habit. As much as you had tried to run away from it, there was comfort in the familiarity.
The Time Door stood before you, inviting you in. You inhaled a deep breath and closed your eyes.
And then you walked through.
When you opened your eyes, you saw two gold doors. You backed up, trying to figure out where you were, only to back into a wall. The tiny space you were in was an elevator, you quickly realized. No button was pressed, but it moved nonetheless like it was taking you where you needed to go.
You were about to slip the TemPad into your pocket when it started beeping furiously.
“I swear if this isn’t Renslayer -”
There was no message, no notification awaiting you. Instead, what you saw was utter destruction.
“Oh my God,” you whispered in horror.
Bomb after bomb was being dropped on branches. They snapped off the timeline like twigs as entire universes were completely eradicated. It wasn’t pruning - it was genocide.
If you had never let the branches grow this far, this never would have happened.
It’s your fault.
It’s all your fault.
Suddenly, the elevator dinged, and the doors opened. The control room of the TVA was packed. Analysts and Hunters crowded the room, staring at the screen in front of them. What was on your TemPad was now displayed much bigger. A broken timeline, a massacre.
“Those are lives,” you heard someone say.
Shock overcame your body. You had no control anymore of your actions - you didn’t even realize you had been walking until the elevator doors shut behind you and you were in the center of the control room.
The TVA workers parted as you walked by them. Gossip spread, and whispers were shared. They all knew - you could tell. They knew about your betrayal, how you sided with the man that had stolen their lives - your life.
As the last of them parted, one person stood firmly in your way. Raven hair messily fell past his cheeks, and his blue eyes bored into you. They widened as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“Hi.”
It was all you could say.
“Hi,” he responded.
An awkward pause settled between you. Loki cleared his throat and turned to Mobius, who nodded at him encouragingly.
“He was wrong,” Loki said to you. “A replacement didn’t stop the branching.”
“He wasn’t wrong,” you told him softly. “I just wasn’t right.”
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“What?”
“I tried,” you said, voice cracking. Tears slowly welled in your eyes. “I thought I could fix it. But no matter how hard I tried, it was never enough. I was never enough. I failed.”
You tried to wipe your tears discreetly so no one would see.
“You have some nerve showing up here,” one of the workers shouted. Others sounded their agreement.
You stared at the floor in shame.
“Easy, X-10 or I’ll throw you in that cell with Brad,” Loki threatened, his tone pointed and glare blazing.
“I want to help,” you said to the hunter. “There’s a war coming. We need to be ready.”
Mutters broke out amongst the crowd.
“A war?”
“What war?”
“What do you mean?”
But amidst all the chaos, Loki’s eyes didn’t leave yours. You watched as he slowly walked toward you. The anger in his eyes faded immediately when he looked at you. Instead, they looked sad - the type of melancholy only heartbreak could cause. Misery, longing, and fear all in one. But he pushed it aside, approaching you and holding out his hand.
