Masha Ivashintsova (1942-2000), self-portrait.
Ms. Ivashintsova was heavily engaged in the Leningrad poetic and photography underground movement of the 1960−80s. In 2017 her daughter discovered a treasure trove of approx. 30,000 negatives and occasional prints packaged in envelopes with handwritten comments and dates. “Taking photographs for my mother was like breathing,” Asya Ivashintsova-Melkumyan says. “I never thought that it was something special.”
