Ohh Sun Bleached Flies and Claudia have so many heartbreaking connections I need a moment. Claudia inheriting the bitterness and hurt that Lestat and Louis gave her, falling from one horrible situation into another as she tries to escape that pain. The townhouse in Rue Royale, the seven years when she ran away, traveling Europe, the coven in Paris. Trying to find that companionship, that genuine love, that one good thing that she gets to have only to have it slip through her fingers. And she’s going to hold on to that pain, of course she will, because what happened to her was *horrible* in every sense of the word. Because she’s her fathers’ daughter and she spent most of her life in a household/family where suffering was swallowed and festering resentment/toxicity was the norm. But Claudia doesn’t want that for herself. She doesn’t want to be bound by the mess that Louis and Lestat made her in, that they sucked her into even as they loved her because they *did* love her, even if it was in some broken, unhealthy way or another. And if that means leaving and finding her own path and her own community or companionship, that’s what she’ll do.

I do like to think that Claudia got her moment of peace. That moment of relief and closure, where she finally felt like she was able to let go of the trauma and toxicity she endured. Even if it was only for a moment, during those months with Madeline. “If it’s meant to be, then it will be. I’ll forgive it all as it comes back to me.”
