So I posted awhile ago I would be upgrading pickups. This was the cheap JEM Jr. I git last year. Plays pretty nice, but sounded weak. I got DiMarzio Gravity Storms for the next and bridge, and put a True Velvet in the middle. I had to tweak the EQ and I'm still working on it, but I can see a big difference. The bridge pickup hums a but, so I'm not sure what's going on there, but I'll get after that. Anyway, this is a little poppy verse riff I came up with while checking out the new pups. Hope all the dads had a great Father's Day yesterday. . This is my Ibanez JEM Jr. tuned to E standard, going through the Peavey ValveKing 100 and Schecter Hellraiser 4 12 cabinet. . Pedals in order: Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner, MXR Micro Amp, Boss LS-2 Line Selector, Ibanez T59DX Turbo Tube Screamer; in the effects loop: MXR Black Label Chorus, MXR KFK Ten Band EQ, TC Electronic Sentry Noise Gate, MXR Carbon Copy Bright, Boss RV-6 Reverb. I also have two TC Electronic Bona Fide Buffers, one on each board. Hey folks! I haven't been real active on here lately, but I'm still alive and playing! It's my busy season for my business, so nightly playing is really devoted to practice and skills maintenance, rather than riffing and posting. However, I do have a few new riffs, so i will get back to posting when time permits. Also, I'm going to be upgrading a number of my instruments. I have replaced pickups in two, and I've posted vids with them. . I was encouraged with the success of the upgrades to relatively inexpensive instruments, so I am going down that path with a number of my low and mid priced guitars. Most of my more expensive instruments come with pickups I'm already happy with, but clearly, this is where the manufacturers can cut costs. So here are some of the pickups I will be installing as time and resources permit. . Along with the pickups, I'm also doing the jacks, pots, wires, switches, etc. The EMGs come with all that in the box, but not the others, so I have to get all those parts separately. The James Hetfield signature EMG set is going into my LTD MH-400 right now, so watch for a video of that (hopefully) coming soon. Besides these that are shown, I also have some Bare Knuckle pickups on the way. . Cheers! Sound is real dirty, using the neck pickup and a fuzz box through the lead channel! Thick!! ( Not THIC) . This is the intro for a song I've had kicking around for over a year. It got cut off at the end, but you get the idea. I posted the solo section way back when, on this guitar. This is my Hardluck Kings Spider. Guitar is in E standard, going into the lead channel on my Marshall DSL 40C. I have it switched to half power, so I can crank the volume a bit to get the tubes to work a little. I have the internal speaker unplugged, and send the signal to a 2 12 Marshall cab. .
