No job - keep busy

Life with no job - temporarily I hope.

I am taking in and hemming up 3 pairs of pants for my husband.

I need to finish a blanket for customer that I started last fall.  I hope my customer is patient.

I have to make some 3 year-old hats for a customer.  But she won’t send me the head sizes.  I wonder why not.

I replaced my Mercury Milan trunk struts with new ones from Amazon fro $20.  

I put a new battery in my husband’s Toyota key fob.

I plan on organizing my closet in the sewing/spare bedroom.

I need to wash the front and back doors, as the previous owners let them get filthy.

And lastly finish putting magnets on my kitchen cupboards so that they close and stay closed.

That should keep me busy until I get a job.

Open Letter to Employers

Hello,

My name is..., I’m 25 years old. I live in Belgium and I am trying to be a graphic designer, a part of me already is. Since I worked very hard to get a Master Degree, the one you all expect us to have. I got it in september and ever since the day I received that piece of paper I have been looking for a job, preferably in what i studied… .

But I feel the need to be very honest, I have posted around 50 letters, at least the same amount of emails, went to job fairs, interacted, tried to network,… . To get 30-35 job interviews, all ending the same way… We are not hiring you. Why not? You do not have experience … . But honestly I do, it might be less than you asked, is that really all that is stopping you?

You see I know I have things that I still need to learn but what better environment to do so than on the job? If no one is going to give me a chance how am I suppose to grow, not just as a designer, an artist or creative being but as a person. If you won’t hire me, where am I suppose to get that experience from? From the people that ask me to work for free? but you see when I work for free will you still take me seriously? After all exposure is something that i cannot eat… I cannot buy a house with an empty wallet.

If not this reason, Tell me what else I have to tell you besides: I’m willing to take courses, I’m willing to work after hours, willing to move, willing to get paid less while I’m still learning, willing to do anything… From shaving my head to get bitten by a snake. Even though I am not the only young human being having this problem, no one will tell us what we are actually doing wrong. Just judge us by the fact that in 6 months we still haven’t received our first paycheck.

Tell me… Where did I go wrong…
