I'm intrigued by that 'Roku in Yu Dao' fic. That's not a combination that I would have ever considered or found promise in (badum tish), but the fact that it exists implies you've seen something interesting there.

Okay so Yu Dao is supposed to be the oldest Fire Nation colony in the Earth Kingdom, right? I take that to mean it’s literally the one that Roku saw in that flashback before he went off to whoop Sozin’s butt.

Now, I would hope that Roku would actually, y’know, investigate the place before deciding to go yell at Sozin about it. I mean maybe there’s just some visiting Fire Nation ambassadors there and their giant Fire Nation flag got dirty so the Earth Kingdom was kind enough to wash it for them and hang it over the town wall to dry, y’know? Maybe there’s a REASONABLE EXPLANATION FOR THIS.

There isn’t, of course, and the entire fic is basically Roku going around Yu Dao, investigating what the Fire Nation is doing there, and slowly reevaluating his relationship with Sozin and coming to terms with the fact that yeah, his oldest BFF is definitely drifting down the road of imperialism and Roku is going to have to do something about it. I also feel like there’s some concepts about colonialism and exploitation that I ought to explore if I can figure out how - in the comics Yu Dao is seen as a good place by both its Fire and Earth citizens, and it’s very possible that when the Fire Nation first moved into the small town it originally was, the Earth inhabitants thought it was a great opportunity for their local trade and business and, like, *hand waves* just a whole thing about how even though something might be a terrible idea for the rest of the world when you look at the big picture, the very people it exploits may also just embrace it because it’s better than whatever they had before, and it’s not their fault for taking the opportunities they get but also good lord is that insidious.

Also Gyatso is there the entire time with his cheery sense of humor and general kindness as he very gently supports Roku through the realization that he might lose his friendship with Sozin. I’d love to figure out how to incorporate Ta Min as well - even if she’s not present, maybe her merchant contacts alerted her to Yu Dao’s existence and she passed the info on to Roku and that’s why he’s there in the first place? And also, because I’m me, a pair of starstruck Dai Li agents who are really very honored to meet Avatar Roku, and who are also investigating what the heck is up with this Fire Nation settlement in the Earth Kingdom.

It’s one of those fics that could easily be a oneshot and definitely has the potential to be multi-chapter depending on how much plot I come up with and worldbuilding I wanna explore. I’m not sure which I’d prefer, and also I haven’t touched the document of vague ideas since 2014, so I’m just waiting to see if any particularly good ideas show up.

I feel like there is also a tie in with how close zuko was with his mother and how katarra is frequently described as mother like. She almost instinctually takes a pseudo parental role in the show, and zuko is constantly looking for parental affection, especially after he lost his mother. Im not sure if i can really describe it fully. But I've got a feeling theres something there.

You and @loopy777 have both made similar arguments, and it’s an interesting idea to play with. I’m not sure how much I buy it, but it’s still an intriguing idea, especially when we get into the theme of Zuko seeking approval.

I've often said that if the same effort being put into criminalizing abortions was put into just reducing poverty, there might be a superior reduction in actual abortions, never mind more targeted compassionate solutions. As a Catholic engineer, I don't believe most of the Pro-Life movement is actually trying to generate solutions to the stated problem.

Sister Joan Chittister said it best:

"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Well, like any charismatic egomaniac, I do love talking about myself, so let's answer your question.

Because I started on a fragmented internet where you signed up for topic-specific message boards one at a time, I had various usernames throughout the years, usually directly related to the topic at hand. (Although a few times I just used puns I had recently made because I wanted to get more mileage out of them.) So I've gone by monikers inspired by video games, Star Wars, and Transformers. When I got into Avatar and found AvatarSpirit.net, I naturally started thinking about a username for that, too, but it didn't take me long. I pretty quickly put together that I wanted this image as my avvie and a username of Loopy:

Something about it just seemed like the ideal expression of my personality.

While in the Avatar fandom, I accidentally got into writing fanfic. (I'm an avid reader, and I had noticed that most writers are terrible at action scenes and fights, so I started studying the ones who are actually good at it. Eventually I wanted to try applying the lessons I had extrapolated and did a short Avatar story that was just a fight scene. Then people told me it was really good, so I did it again, and people told me that one was really good, too, and if there's a guaranteed way to make me keep at something, it's telling me that I'm better than most people at doing it. Now 15 years later I am the author of the 13th-longest non-crossover fanfic in the Avatar fandom and the 7th-longest completed non-crossover.) I brought the username with me to FanFiction.net, but there was already a Loopy there, so I had add dreaded numbers. I couldn't tell you why other people let numbers into their usernames which aren't easy to remember or symbolic of winning, but going with 777 seemed to again be an obvious choice.

Then the internet got weird and instead of dedicated message boards we ended up with Social Media where everyone is just lumped together and we can talk about anything we want. Since this happened while I was on AvatarSpirit as Loopy, "Loopy" stuck around as my permanent online identity. It helps that Avatar is the fandom where I've had the most impact, so I'm vastly more likely to be recognized as Loopy than any of my other usernames. I have been recognized online in non-Avatar spaces, but so far I've never been recognized in real life when I bring up the username, despite only doing so at Avatar panels at conventions. And I won't even get into the number of times people have approached me with printed-out copies of my fanfic to sign because some ancient numbers systems don't even have the concept of zero in them and I don't want anyone to feel left out.

It also helps that "Loopy" shares a first letter and a similar sound with my real name. It just looks like Me to me.

Having read ‘Certain Point View’, there’s no way it’s canon. The stories even contradict each other.

I haven’t read it, frankly, so I can’t say anything about it. But the piece was written before it. It’s worth noting that by the model that LFL has set up—everything after April 25, 2014 is canon—it is canon, contradictions and all.

I really don’t know how they intend to reconcile the contradictions or if they even care, like, @PabloHidalgo answer this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
