Oh. If you are taking makeup asks, what are good eyebrows? I don't understand why people do their eyebrows. Why do people darken their brows, and what effect does it have with the overall look? Thank you~
Good eyebrows are however you want your eyebrows to look, regardless if you do them or not.
The socially constructed idea of good eyebrows in the modern beauty culture has a few different reasons/trends. Larger and darker eyebrows have come into fashion, just as before thinner eyebrows will have been in fashion (and will come into fashion again). I personally have’t studied the history/current events of makeup enough be able to accurately explain why these are in fashion now, but they are. (though a large part of my guess is appropriating looks from people of color, as is happening a lot now (though that happens a lot throughout the history of conventional beauty standards as well))
Possibly one of the reasons, though, is the fact that present day makeup fads are heavily based on showcasing the makeup artists’s (whether amateur or professional) skills ie: sharp eyeliner, sharp lips, sharp brows, all of these things take skill and practice to do well. It’s also a showcase of learned technique that can be harder to do ie: very sharp winged eyeliner, well done gradient eyebrows etc
Darkened brows, though, help define the eye area and keep the look clean. Plus in applying other makeup like foundation, face powder, eyeshadow, etc will get in the eyebrow and discolor them, so it helps to correct that. You shouldn’t over darken, just darken to the color of your natural hair color. This can be harder for people with light hair, which is why light colors for brows are made in more blonde tones.
