Huge fan of when I have a problem that I have no idea how to handle (or no time/tools/physical strength to handle) and I call A Guy who knows how to handle it and they come and handle it for me.
Thinking about the whole "there is no platonic explanation for this" thing and how it doesn't account for intense platonic situationships and anyways I think we should start saying "there is no casual explanation for this" bc really what we're talking about is the way the characters in question are Obsessed with each other
I'd like to thank op because I have been using these as reaction images since I first saw this post in 2022 and I had lost track of their origin but now I am grateful to the universe for the chance to say bless u
So I had already guessed this was going to be a cash grab and it sure does feel like it. Fuck removing the theme song, for one, and another feels like they're doing the same thing that they did for season 5 except having the kids be kids again and no random prop explanations so it's only a minor improvement. But there's so much they could have done that isn't underestimating kids both inside and outside the screen.
Having the kids grow up fast was central to their character development in the main series, so having that not be there doesn't have them be the same characters anymore. Everyone feels like they're off script and don't act the same yet are expected to have the same backstory as season 2. It's like fanfiction but not written in a believable way. And there was no real issue of outsiders vs normies which has been central to so many seasons of the original series. The gang is bullied for being freaks, but there is no solid reasoning behind doing so unlike season 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Oh wait that's the entire show. And Dustin doesn't have his CCD either which his actor said it was important to address.
The new monsters have the victims rescueable, which is a change from the mind flayer and vecna. And I would prefer it that way since it would bring that community of a small town together, which they haven't in 3 whole events that forced them to accept losing so many people and a huge change that doesn't benefit anyone. They had Hawkins be a small town, yet it never really felt like one. It just felt like a place and a label as to why to call the town cursed even before the upside down invasion. They keep separating and coming back together just like the real series, but over here they do it so often that it's not a grand reveal or anything exciting once they finally reunite. It's like there's more excitement when they're separated.
One thing I missed was Eleven having limited vocabulary. That was the whole reason that she was using props as explanations to try and find will and understand the upside down. And she had more personality that way in a show not tell way, the one method that both seasons 4 and 5 threw in the trash. She yearns to speak out more when she doesn't have the words for it, and still retains her independence from Hopper and Mike. They're like the worst fathers ever. Eleven still remained constantly babied and treated like a pokemon when she wanted more than anything to be her own person. It was nice to have that after the show but it's unbelievable that she would turn into just like everyone else's vocabulary in only 3 months. And she ends up being used as a pokemon again.
Max felt useless here other than for someone to breathe down Lucas's neck. She was meant to be someone who challenged the group and that has been completely replaced with Nikki. Mike completely hating Nikki was completely unfounded given how much it's everyone's fault (Lucas and Dustin especially) that things go south.
Nancy, Jonathan, Steve...fuck it, all the adults are just not even here. Even though it's marketted for kids, it's completely off to have the only adults be Nikki's parents. Nancy gets all of one episode and it doesn't even feel like she and Mike are brother and sister from how less they hang around each other. I know I already felt that with the original series but over here they are even more detached and Nancy only shows up to be a distraction even though she carried so many times in season 4.
It was a cool twist in the end but it doesn't give much grounds for another season, even though it's confirmed for this fall. A bunch of the dialogue and scenes feel more like padding out for filler time which I guess isn't second screening but it's so slow and even kids would get tired of this pacing. They don't even do much with how much they put into the animation until the final episodes. And without all the mature themes the original show once had, no one truly feels like themselves other than Eleven and Mike. And they're going to have a spinoff...
I didn't like this, or how they're trying to bring it back but watered the heck down. It makes no sense to make this for kids and insist it takes place between seasons 2 and 3, which are clearly not for kids. And this would have been a better main threat than just Russians working in a mall. Russia in the main series plot in general made no sense in the first place other than to be racist I guess? It would have been cohesive to have two threats that would abduct people and mark them just like Vecna did in an actually threatening way that would mean something, but I digress.
Overall I enjoyed it and it made me devastated and made me feel like the MAN meme as soon as the final shot came around. It was nice to see Tom Holland by someone other than spider-man and Robert Pattinson being someone other than edward.
The plot was very much going all over the place but in a way that doesn't have anyone be lost. One side has Matt Damon trying to get home after his victory in Troy while going insane, and the other has Penelope at odds whether to keep waiting for him as suitors are itching for that empty throne. Tom Holland is also eager for the throne if his father is not going to come back even though he isn't of age yet, but doesn't show up much in the plot other than trying to find out more stories of him. He still ends up a very respectable character anyway from how much he does care about the throne for other than glory and showing off unlike the suitors.
Matt Damon is the strong leader that everyone counts on, even though his men slowly don't want to listen to him from how much he isn't truthful to them. He knows that they are all going to die but would rather not tell them until they are encountering the many, many soldiers that died because of him. And even though he wanted to hear the siren's song, he doesn't seem to do anything with it? It was nice to see Dr. Park die in a stupid way though. I never really liked him.
The dialogue being somewhat modern really made no sense. It's easily understood, but wouldn't language of the age be fine given how loyal they were to the other parts with practical locations and effects?
The music was what was carrying the movie and how much Matt Damon yearns and fights to head home, even though the survivor's guilt gets heavier and heavier each time he goes through another battle. It had all the emotions sink in, so well.
As a photographer though, I don't see much point in having this be all in 70mm when there isn't a lot of room in said frame or use of creative framing. If the impressive part was how wide and massive the battles were such as troy and the man eating crystal armor giants, that NEEDS to be a wide shot. Come on.
Overall I do recommend this, again, for an emotional journey of getting home after battle and the burdens that come with it.

i doubt the people that i befriended and knew on tumblr back in the day are even still here, since i was cancelled at some point by the fandom of one of the most popular animated shows on here. no those rumors are not true. i won't elaborate more than a decade later other than it makes itself look like heaven compared to what modern fandom does now.
i had a personal project going with my ocs that aren't attached to fandom but after 10 years of basically no progress and no one interested and invested in them like I used to have, might as well shelve them. i'm in a ton of debt so i have to go back to the grind.
I don't have a lot of expectations for superhero movies thanks to marvel, but this one actually was awesome to watch and I haven't felt that level of hype from a girl superhero movie since Wonder Woman. And it was so good, the internet is just mean.
What I liked the most about Kara is that she doesn't give a fuck about anything that has to do with how women "should" act. She's drinking herself to death, is visibly sick and weak through most of the movie, self harming going to red sun planets, and doesn't hold back whenever she has an issue with something. She does look after the girl, which was frustrating on how many times she has told her to stay put and she doesn't and that has always led to trouble. And the one time she does at the very end of the movie is when they're finally alright. It makes total sense on why she's so bitter towards the world and doesn't think anything she's doing is heroic or for the greater good, or why she would do anything on the behalf of total strangers even though Ruthie got her attached.
The plot was simple, and they aren't subtle onto what this is about. Beating up pedophiles was the best thing to watch. And it made sense how the entire plot is simply John Wick. Both Kara and Ruthie have strong motivations to go after Krem, although I feel like there could have been more to the girl's parents dying other than person who doesn't give a fuck going back on their deal.
I really enjoyed it, and I wish it could have gone on just a little bit longer, but under two hours has been most of my limit for me. Over two hours doesn't have a good reason to do so and under two hours seems to be the sweet spot.
