The Maimed Lion and the Leech Lord
The weakness was a constant presence in his limbs, slowing his steps and making what once would have been simple for him a strain all on it's own. His stump, though properly cleaned and tended to, throbbed with every footstep, and pain would on occasion make his steps falter. The knight was feverish, the poison from the wound still taking it's toll, and it would continue to do so for some time, he was certain of.
Though Jaime would have once found it difficult to admit, he was in truth grateful for Brienne's ever-watchful gaze by his side, and she seemed to sense when he needed assistance, though he'd never admit to it. He was stubborn, even now. But even so, from time to time he would grip her arm to steady himself, and to keep from falling.
He was weaker than a child now, and worth less than a woman. How could he amount to something, when he could no longer wield a blade, or even cut his own meat properly?
With Brienne by his side, and one of Bolton's men following them, Jaime wandered the halls of Harrenhal, the once great castle that was now a ruin of it's former glory. He refused to rest. He couldn't allow them to think him weaker than he already was. He wouldn't.
Despite Lord Bolton's words last night, I cannot help but to wonder if he spoke true. If he sends me back to King's Landing, I will sing whatever he wants to my Lord Father. But if he does not... I do not know what I will do, Jaime sighed to himself as he wearily looked at the wench. She is stronger than I once would have thought.
In the distance, he could see Lord Bolton and several of his bannermen, and for a moment, he was tempted to turn away. But despite what he might have felt about the man, he had taken them from the Goat's care. And so, with a slow nod to Brienne, the pair approached him, Jaime moving slowly to avoid his weakness being revealed.
