Due to the fact that Martyns fracture scars only appear in between games, plus the slight memory wiping that occurs during their time in the void, most of the members have no idea where Martyns scars come from.
Most either assume that it’s none of their business or even gaslight themselves into believing new ones have always been there. The few moments someone decides to ask him about them Martyn loves to tell new outlandish stories about their origins. (If you’ve seen his Rats SMP s1 it’s that same bit he used to do for his arm)
His favorite joke though was when Lizzie asked him about his scars and said “HOLY S*** WHEN DID THOSE GET THERE?!?”

basically. This dude. This silly little guy.
grew up in a high key oppressive country, in a family incredibly high in the social ladder. Like, hes in a HOUSE (Pavus) whose members serve in a court system through out its generations.
So! Bros gay. Gayer than gay. He ignores all the female suitors and goes after the fellow gays instead. But since his country (the tevinter imperium) is homophobic, he cant actually get emotionally close to the gender hes interested in, and is heavily pushed by his family and society to get a girl (specifically someone they chose for him to be his suitor). Hes very adamant though that hes not going to do that. Whichll come in later~
so, bros a highly talented mage. Necromancer, specifically. (Magic is highly valued in this society, so this is kinda a big deal). Hes sent off by his family to join the circles (the system put in place to "teach" mages (put them on a leash)) but gets into a little curfuffle with another kid and gets sent home. His family sends him from circle to circle desperately trying to get him to behave and learn magic. FAST FORWARD, they send him to a prestigious school in Minrathos. News flash. He doesnt like that
so he runs away
and turns up 3 months later

THEN
This Magister (important title) named Alexius finds him in this bar, and finds it so hilarious that he picks dorian up himself rather than reporting him. During the carriage ride, alexius becomes so impressed with dorian that he takes him on as his personal apprentice, until, shocker, alexius' wife dies and they get into such a heated disagreement that dorians ups and leaves again
dorian is then kidnapped by his own parents and kept at their estate as a PRISONER for MONTHS due to a scandal he caused with another important guys son (they slept with eachother) he EVENTUALLY escapes and vows to never come back

THIS IS WHERE I COME IN
So, the "main character" of the game, (us), is after some guy who is causing trouble in redcliff. What is he doing exactly? Helping a demon-god open holes to hell. (Technically heaven but demons are pouring out so lets go with hell). Who is he, exactly? ALEXIUS
We come to confront him in this castle fort located there. Dorian turns up there to help us cuz hes been on to this guy since, guess when, their argument!! And he helps us drive him back, and so we decide to bring him onto our team :]
SO!! Thats up until we meet ^~^ lore dump complete! Relationship lore however? Has only begun!! (Tw slavery and familial abuse mentions. And well. Romance!)
So!! We uhhh. Accidentally made him hate us at first. Chose the wrong dialogue options during our first actual conversations (and by "wrong" i mean calling out his country on their slavery problem. Bonus (tw slavery mention), we chose the elf option for races during character creation, which happen to be the people that his country enslave. Yikes!)
So that wasn't going great for us. But! We managed to get his "approval" (in game mechanic, has to be high to start romance quests) of us much higher due to making decisions that he agreed with, as well as later dialogue that went. Well. Much better
Random note- Hes (imo) the best mage you can travel with, so we bring him everywhere :]
we then arrived in Skyhold (second location for our organizations base later in the arc after Haven was destroyed) AND THIS IS WHERE THE GAY PART COMES BACK IN
dorian's dad had been trying to reach him through writing letters to someone in our organization. she forwarded the letter to me, and pleaded with me to set up a meeting between the two WITHOUT telling dorian.
Like? Excuse me? Hell no?
so of course i told Dorian that his father wanted to see him. He said, fuck that bastard, lets go see what he has to say.
we arrive. They have a.... discussion. THEN its revealed, that dorians father TRIED TO USE BLOOD MAGIC on him, to STOP HIM FROM BEING GAY
like???? Fucking hello??? Abusive father much??? Not only that but blood magic is expressly forbidden and an embarrassment to use in Tevinter +everywhere else. So not only is this guy a shitty father, but hes risking further scandal by trying to perform blood magic to begin with
we urged dorian to leave with us back to our organizations base and away from his dad again. We left and went back to Skyhold. We talked about how he felt about the whole thing, we encouraged him, and!!!!! We kissed :3 YAYYYY
first kiss achievement reached!! /silly
AFTER THAT, we went on a quest to retieve his family crest, which he had lost sometime between escaping his family and his entrance to the visible storyline. He wasnt happy about that (HIS personal business) but eventually realized he was being an ass about something we did for *him* because we wanted to, not because we wanted anything in return.
later on, during conversation, Dorian implies that there is something interesting waiting for us in our quarters.
So! Uh. After that. Upon entering said quarters. A cutscene happens. Skipping that for pg reasons but ill happily recount the conversational/general details in another post if yall want. But!! We had a talk during that all and OFFICIALLY GOT TOGETHER YAYYYY HES OUR PARTNER NOW

a few conversations and adventures later, we brought him with us to a (largely political) ball!! And after we solved all the problems and succeeded in not dying and losing the courts approval (and getting the best ending),,,,, add suspense here,,, we got to dance together on a balcony!!!!!! <3
And thats how its going! Havent finished the game yet (almost did but had to start over cuz our files corrupted) so thats as far as weve gotten. We do know what happens next, but since we havent technically done it, not including it here!
theres plenty more in terms of in-game and post-game headcanon for our relationship, but we'll spare you <3 /silly
