     It was supposed to hurt. Greg had prepared himself to feel hurt at the answer that the consulting detective might give him. But when it came, for some reason it was okay. It shouldn’t be, for he had spent the past two years trying to piece himself back together after the man’s jumping off St. Bart’s. He should be mad. Hurt. The past two years of yearning and pining for a dead man -- and Sherlock didn’t even think about him while he was away.

     Instead, Greg nodded. Understanding. He always understood. He always tried to understand. Because it was the only thing he could do.

     “You’re right. I’m sorry. That was a stupid question. I’m just happy you’re back.”

I DONT EVEN WANNA SEND THIS IN MULTIPLE ASKS BECAUSE THAT WOULD TAKE TIME AND I ALREADY KNOW IMMA GO OVER 500 CHARACTERS SO OH BOY SIT DOWN GET READY HERE’S MY LIST OF REASONS WHY CRIMEBLOGGER DOT TUMBLR DOT COM IS ACTUALLY THE REAL LIFE JOHN WATSON (AND WRITES HIM PRETTY WELL TOO)

your dialogue is on point!! everything john says keeps in line with his speaking patterns in the show, from the word usage to the little pauses to the expressions he uses while speaking, and intentionally or not, this is amazingly impressive to see on tumblr. we’re all writing characters that are not our own so seeing you so skillfully writing how john speaks, especially as someone who struggles with dialogue constantly, its beautiful, to put it in so few words. 

you notice the little things. example: literally as i typed that, you pointed out that john says “oh!” and then follows sherlock after a moment’s pause, and like. thats the kind of little habit that really makes john feel real. you have all of his little quirks and habits down so well that sometimes i don’t even think you notice writing them in; you just do. 

your narration is fucking gorgeous. the effort you put into replies and into getting in john’s head really shines here, because even when it’s not dialogue, it still sounds like john. everything in your replies is so ridiculously watson that it kind of kills me. a lot. every single time. like over and over and over until i’m just a mess because the way you write reflects him so beautifully. he’s sewn into every sentence and i don’t really know how to describe it, but i love it.

you develop john outside of canon and that’s a fantastic thing. you have in-depth headcanons and habits that work with canon but aren’t, they’re all yours, and they do an amazing job at keeping your john yours. john watson is a canon character, but this john, the one you portray in your own brilliant way, nobody else could write him like this. your understanding of him has gone past canon to reach into parts of him that aren’t explored.

as you’re so quick to point out, john watson is an angry man. you love that about him and you embrace it wholeheartedly. i’ve never once seen you fail to recognize that john is, above all else, a soldier. maybe this is why he’s so amazingly well-written in your hands; you took a canon aspect of him that many choose to ignore despite it being so central to the show, and you grew him from there. your headcanons are so accurate and your writing so beautiful because you see john watson for what he is when he’s stripped away. and honestly? that’s the absolute best.

and i have zero self-control, so here are some non-writing related things that i love about you:

you’re actually john?? like i’ve said it before but you have the same kind of patience and determination and strength that he does and honestly its. its just really admirable and i love it.

you let me yell about headcanons to you and also you made me ship john and sherlock, but only between my sherl and your john, because listen. gently pulls u closer to me. you’re my john and writing johnlock with anyone else would be considerably less satisfying.

you let me write the above three things and responded with nothing but enthusiasm for them. hell, you encouraged them. you started them, really. especially the hand thing. i wasn’t planning on writing sin today. least of all that particular subject matter. but i imagine it would have left some of us feeling a little empty, eh?

it’s always good to see this person on my dash!! we’ve been following each other for a long time and i can say that i love this portrayal of sherlock holmes, the mun is doing a very good job! this blog is pure quality. we don’t speak ooc, but i can say that the mun seems to be a lovely person (and well, i’ve been following this blog for a long time) and i’d love to talk more with the mun.

okay, now you!!! i’ve always been a secret admirer of your sherlock (i’m not kidding) and when you sent me that message ooc i was like omg they sent it to the wrong molly???? but then i read that ‘hi i’m mac and i have a lot of feelings’ part and everything was clear. you’re spontaneous and such a sweet person! i’m glad that you talked to me and i love talking to you about headcanons or ooc stuff. and your portrayal? well, you’re an excellent sherlock, and i recommend this blog for everyone to follow because this is a high quality blog!! also, you always throw me a lot of feelings with your headcanons, and i already consider you a friend.
