CC-Free Building: Industrial Doodads

After looking at a looooot of photos of the backs & roofs of commercial buildings, I've thrown together a handful of go-to shapes that can be built in TS2 with no CC, in order to vaguely represent an industrial HVAC system, or plumbing, or whatever this stuff is used for because I don't actually know lol

I did make a mini tutorial on CC-free air conditioning units a while ago, but this is just like a reference catalog of ideas.

Wall Doodads:

• 1x1 foundation with Railway Tie fencing & AL wall vents

• Staircases to nowhere (so sims don't actually try to use them)

• 1x1 regular walls with Railway Tie fencing & AL wall vents

Roof Doodads:

• 1x1 regular walls with Railway Tie fencing

• 1x1 half wall with Uni cafeteria counter island & AL wall vents

• Foundation octagon/square with Railway Tie fencing

As for wallpaper/flooring, I always use the exact same ones:

If you wanna be super fancy, use the AL moulding thing on upper stories to hide the edge of that 1x1 ceiling tile:

You can also use the AL ventilation things to connect the 1x1 walls/foundations to the main building and/or each other, or as exhaust things:

Aaaand last but not least, drawing lines with fencing all over the roof:

I think what I've seen in real life photos where there's "lines" on the roof it's probably drainage pipes for the air conditioners or something - But this isn't real life so I just make neat looking shapes with the lines lol

Those are all the doodads I've come up with! They are a level of basic where you can mix & match or combine them to make more complicated versions.

Also for industrial-type building in general, might I recommend my own CC-free industrial/grunge/rundown Buy/Build collection!

It's much easier to throw these fake HVAC systems together with that collection, since it narrows down the catalog to only the things I'd need for basically that exact situation.

Still plugging along on the Super6 Roadside Motel. I merged some of the rooms, and it's mostly furnished now, with the exception of the front office/check-in. Average sized rooms for a mid-century era motel, and most units have kitchenettes - this isn't luxury lodging by any means though.

Aaaaand it’s time for my almost-yearly house post! :P I have so little time these days... but finally, here we are. The last residential lot of medieval village Arianburh!

This is the Thorne Manor House, belonging to the MCC’s starting Gentry family. Of all the families I rolled, this is the most ridiculous one of them all -- although it should make for a good story!

After their parents, Sir Tristan and Lady Iseult, get tragically killed in the political uproar down south that they went to in order to support the king, three orphaned teenage girls decide to run the village by themselves. It is now upon them to protect and guide their little brother who is heir and also their toddling triplet siblings, and steer the daily goings-on of the wrecked and grieving settlement.

The plots of land in front of the manor are the family farm, a community lot that I’m planning on having the Borrow teenage boys work on. (And yes I’m definitely hoping for some inter-class romance drama there! ^^) I think I might also have one of the girls pick up tailoring.

They didn’t have a lot of time recently for the upkeep of the manor grounds, so the garden is rather overgrown at the back where there aren’t any other villagers to notice. I made a servant’s bedroom too, in case they will be needing one later. I based this house off of a drawing in “Timber Framed Buildings Explained - Britain’s Living History”, of a ‘lobby entrance house for a yeoman farmer’ which means that there’s probably all kinds of things wrong with my using it for a knight’s family, but alas. (Perhaps he used to be a yeoman farmer?) By the way, I just found this resource, which might interest you if you like British historical houses too. (Finally, useful maps for medieval halls! Who knows, I might redo this one later.)

Now I just need to get the village green and the river lot in good shape, perhaps figure out what I want to do with religion in this village -- and then -- who knows -- *gasp* after 5 years of planning and building, I might even get around to playing the actual thing?

ps. I also redid the walls of the ruined castle compound (said castle to be built later), because they got lost in a CC swap at some point. Now there’s an inner and an outer ring, which you can kind of see in the second photo.

Another randomly placed Ambitions lot. I made it look more like a boutique than a dumping ground. It kinda doesn’t fit the rest of the neighborhood but whatever. I had fun.

There's soooo many good floorplan catalogs on Archive.org

Spanning from 1837-2015, a huge majority of them are free to read (the ones that aren't are usually still free, you just have to log into an account and "borrow" it) plus all the pages can be saved as individual images in full resolution!

There's a specific tag/category for floorplan catalogs on Archive.org that I shared way back in 2017, but not everyone who posts them uses the same tags/categories, so these are just extra ones I found with slightly different results than the one I relied on before (obviously they overlap with each other a bit too).
