what is the quickest and best way to cool your muse down ?
ah, you’re lucky this included “best” because the quickest way to extinguish ren’s anger is definitely to dial their own emotions all the way down to 0% but — ! speaking of percentages, feng, ren’s combat mentor, had a fantastic way of gauging what ren was feeling when they were younger when even ren had trouble expressing how. relating to this headcanon about ren being better with numbers, feng would ask for a percentage, or a “ what do you feel on a scale of 1 to 10 ” because ren’s mind works better with numbers. ren would have an easier time answering “ how angry are you ? out of 100% ” than “ what are you feeling right now ? ” which — as someone whose emotional development was ruined by their semblance — became very very handy. oh, the easiest way to calm ren down though is to say “ breathe with me ” and take them through some breathing exercises. touching them to comfort them only applies to people who are close, and more often than not backfires.
what is the easiest way to piss off your muse ?
previous answers aside another very quick way to incite ren’s anger is to underestimate them, verbally disrespect their abilities, y’know “ fuck around and find out. ” ren knows that they aren’t the physically strongest on their team, nor are they very arrogant when it comes to their abilities, but they are very, very capable ( me, ignoring six volumes of lukewarm / fighting in favour of pretending all of it was like ren vs. taijitu ) as depicted in grimm eclipse ! ren has always used spite as a motivator, as an allusion to both disney’s animated mulan and their second allusion nezha ( 2019 version ) whose whole story revolved around fighting fate. ren has more determination than one realises, and doubting that drive could definitely get you into trouble.
any pet peeves ?
though ren is very prideful themselves, too much pride in other people tends to put them off. too much pride in which one refuses to take accountability of one’s own actions, admit to their wrongdoings, or justify both bigoted, exclusionary, or prejudice behaviour, then ren becomes irritated - but this also applies with debates, arguments, facts. it’s really just the incapability to say “ i’m sorry, i’m learning, i’m trying to do better ” or “ i disagree but i respect your opinion ” that ticks them off, because ren knows how hard it is to apologise, admitting that one is wrong when one wholeheartedly believed they were once right is a very hard thing to do, as well as be civil about an opinion you’re passionate about, so they’ve always respected people who could remain flexible with their viewpoints, or see something from another person’s perspective ( empathy !!! ) ren enjoys people who believe themselves to be in a perpetual state of learning, and rolls their eyes at people who think they know everything already.
what are habits they have when they become angry ?
i’ve actually wrote this one before somewhere, but ren does do that little annoyed “tch” noise when they’re extremely irritated. there are some mannerisms that aren’t going to appear unless you’ve known ren a significant amount of time, this is one of those noises because it’s pretty few and far between. ren has a lot of patience, so if you hear that noise and keep pushing, then ren snapping is an inevitability.
