I spent last night talking and laughing with my best friend, my sisters, my daughter, and my mom. My sisters were going through high school yearbooks and telling stories about people. They were mostly delighting in embarrassing me by telling my daughter at least 15 times, "Oh, your dad totally made out with her." I corrected them, when needed and laughed at how easy and happy I was. We all had so many dumb and terrible and good stories.
I was walking home in the rain with my daughter, when she told me that she had never seen us like that: no extra people (boyfriends, husbands, girlfriends, wives, cousins, extraneous friends and acquaintances). Sometimes it takes someone else to point out how significant these moments are.
Today I'm just remembering my mom smiling and listening, curled up next to her granddaughter, both overflowing with so much love and wonder, smiling until their faces hurt.
Fuck. I'm so lucky to have shown that kid a little bit of how we all were so many years ago, the rhythm of our conversations, the talking over each other, the speed of all our left-turns.
L’amour, c’est pas réservé qu'aux humains! 💘 Love is for keeps, but not just for peeps! ❤️ ⠀
Just first make yourself a priority. Then everything will be sorted out!!
Everytime, before I sleep:
I used to look at your photos.
I used to read our old conversations.
I used to think of your touch.
I used to imagine the future with you.
I used to always pray that you're happy.
I used to wonder if you miss me too.
I used to ask myself if the thought of me makes you smile.
I used to wish that I was good enough for you.
I used to hope that you're still in love with me.
I used to believe that I still have a chance.
I used to.
You said it was over. And that your feelings towards me dwindled down to nothing.
