The reason why Tony is one of the greatest characters I’ve ever seen

And why all the haters need to settle down

In my opinion Tony is truthfully the definition of a hero. Yes, he was jerk and a playboy, but he had a great character development. First, look at his story (even if almost all superheroes have a sad one). In Iron Man 1, he passed trough some really traumatic events, like being a hostage and feeling all the pain from a surgery that almost killed him. The man he trusted so much stabbed him in the back. He literally saw all the damage caused by his weapons and felt so guilty. After that, he tried to be a better human (even if he stayed kind of cocky and sassy but that's his personality ). After all, he is a....

During the NY battle in the Avengers, he literally sacrificed himself to save the planet and suffered so much because of it ( pretty sure it worse his already existent panic attacks). He even said that Thanos was in his mind since that moment. During the age of ultron, he creates the robot to protect the world and the ones he loves because of his vision (remember what Scarlet Witch did to him ?) and had a reminder about the damage that his weapons can make (ex maximoff's family). That's why he decided to sign the Sokovia Accords, tor prevent these "causalities" and accidents. Imagine all the guilt he had at that moment. But again, life is not in his side. He lost Cap, and many others Avengers

That's why during S Homecoming it hit me so hard when he told Peter not to die because he would not be able to handle that, he said it with his eye still being blue from Cap's punch. We know that he was sincere 

Spoiler alert for Infinity war.... 

Now imagine Tony now trying to redo his life. He and Pepper are married and he even dreamed that she was pregnant. But all of that is taken for him when Thanos and the Black Order arrives. They tried to vanquish Thanos but failed. Suddenly his companions start disappearing in front of him, turning into dust. Suddenly his hearth stops when he heard peters voice "Mr Stark, I don't feel so go". Image the guilt he must feel for this kid death.

The reason I think he’s such a great hero, is because he fights even if he could literally retire if he wants to. He’s rich, so he could literally just take a break whenever he wants, but he doesn't. Tony Stark is the definition of a hero. Someone who is human and makes errors, but who tries to do his best to protect everyone.
