How to be a fan from 500 miles away.
For the first time since the fall began, Z’s sports team is close to me! .... Well sort of. If you call a four and a half hour drive close. I suppose this is the closest he has been. 200 miles versus 500. But, like most things, there is always a catch: I drive the four hours by myself to see him and maybe only talk to him for 30 minutes or not go at all and wait till thanksgiving. Many may think that thanksgiving is not that far away, don’t waste all that time and energy on that it won’t be worth it. However, this is also our anniversary month!
Every month I’ll send him a different care package with all of his favorite things in it (pretty much anything he can digest at this point) . Since I’m about to graduate and be a chemist, I made the first one chemistry based: “some chemist loves you”, the October on was fall and halloween themed and this months would be anniversary themed. If I were to see him, he’d get his package only a week early or he’ll have to wait for three weeks till thanksgiving.
Not that any of that is an important factor to this specific post but anyways. It can be a hard decision on trying to figure out what to do. I personally don’t know much about his sport so this decision was mostly based on him and what he would think is best. I’m not one to be super great at making large decisions like this especially when I’ve never had to drive more than two hours away and don’t have much knowledge about how the event is going to go. Either way I’ll be on the near (or far) sidelines cheering him on.
Somethings I’ve learned about being supportive from far away is that you can never send too many good luck and congratulation texts. Cute supportive voice mails never go out of style. And finally, if you have time and can be creative make a small poster out of printer paper and snapchat a selfie of you holding it to your SO and it’ll bring a smile to their face.
All my love always,
M
