The intoxicating smell of fresh pollen rendered the riesling in Harvey’s grasp near useless. He stood at the edge of the meadow, eyeing his community for any signs of seasonal allergies, a little hum of anxiety bubbling amidst his pulse. He tapped his wine glass at the pace, hoping to decrease his heart rate at least a little before the annual Flower Dance began. He didn’t want you to think-
He cut himself off mid-thought, rubbing his other hand over his mustache as he realized he was getting far ahead of himself. You couldn’t possibly think a thing about him or his dancing if he hadn’t even asked you yet. On that note, he hadn’t even seen you arrive. The dance was looming, and he was beginning to lose hope that you’d even show up, even though the two of you had chatted about mutual excitement surrounding the festival just days before. He’d been looking forward to the event ever since - If you could take his breath away on a grocery run, then your elegance today would be beyond his imagination.
“Busted the bowtie out, huh?” your calm voice sent him flying an inch, clutching at his chest as he nearly spilt his wine. You couldn’t help but laugh as he turned to you, his posture straightening back up after the fright.
What a sight you were.
Hair styled beautifully, clearly a little frazzled by the humidity from the walk over. It suited the boisterous flower crown that adorned your head, freshly harvested blooms casting a soft shadow over your glittering eyes, squinted slightly from your smiling cheeks. Your lips; he had to cast his gaze away for a moment, lest he linger too long on their apt rosiness. Drifting downwards, the glow of your white dress in the midday sun nearly blinded his soul, the gentle pleats draping over you so perfectly. He could feel his cheeks reddening, bringing his wine glass up for a sip before pointing a finger from its rim.
“Did you… come from the woods?” he gestured to the shadows behind you, deciduous branches darkening shortly beyond the meadow.
“A little shortcut from my property to here. Oh, where’d you get that?” You gestured to the wine in his hand, making him realize the sheer amount of sweat condensating against the glass.
“Would you like a glass?” He quickly asked, gesturing towards the mini bar that Gus was manning.
“I’d love one, thanks!” You smiled, signaling Harvey to scuttle to the small bar. It was just minutes before the dance was scheduled, and with any luck, he’d be able to spend that time building up the courage to finally ask you.
“Another glass, please,” Harvey asked Gus politely, holding his own tightly to his chest.
“Already? Y’ain’t even finished your first,” Gus laughed.
“Oh no, not for me, for-” Harvey turned his body to gesture towards you, but choked as he saw your attention focused elsewhere.
Elliott stood - no, knelt in front of you, placing a kiss to the top of your hand. Harvey’s wine spilled over the glass as he stared at the scene blankly, mirroring the shocked expression that was on your own face. His palpitating heart ceased for a moment in anticipation of what you were to respond with.
“That’s… that’s rough, buddy.” Gus sighed out, reaching over to grab the emptied glass from Harvey’s limp grip. “Take another on the house.”
“Gladly,” Harvey murmured, turning back to the saloon owner as you nodded to Elliott in his periphery. “Need a hand with the bar? Looks like my afternoon’s just cleared up.”
--
Your cheeks flushed with a sharp heat against the chilly spring breeze, lungs a little worn from the twirling and frolicking of the last few hours. The sun threatened to set beyond the treeline to the west, your breathing heavy as the final dance of the event came to a close. You hadn’t spent much time with Elliott before today, mostly in passing at the library or the beach. Your lifestyles didn’t overlap greatly, making it quite the surprise to find him on his knees asking you for a dance with the elegant jargon of a romance novel from the 19th century.
You’d always craved a moment just like it, sudden passion with a hint of one’s obsession over you, but finding that moment in a near stranger made it significantly less gratifying than you’d pictured. Novelty aside, Elliott’s beautifully manicured hands made you extremely self conscious as you danced, a bit of the dirt from your last harvest unable to be washed from the fine lines of your fingers. He didn’t seem to notice your hands, though, or anything else for that matter, as his head was largely in the clouds, swirling you around like you were nothing more than a figment of his imagination. Endearing at first, but rather pompous by the last dance. No need to worry about stepping on his toes when you were almost always being flung through the air.
After giving a generous bow, Elliott pressed a gentle kiss to the back of your hand once again, your chest falling and rising greatly. His charming focus broke away from you within a moment, letting you finally catch a breath as Elliott found Leah.
“Excellent moves, my friend!” He began, trailing off to the side of the meadow.
You breathed out, taking a moment to readjust your flower crown and wipe a bead of sweat from beneath it before searching the perimeter for Gus’s mini bar. You waltzed over, the evening air settling your sweat down with a cold touch.
“Two waters, please,” you near panted, leaning an arm against the pop-up table.
“Do you just want a bottle instead?” Gus asked, hesitating with the two plastic cups in his hands.
“No, no, one cup for me and another for, uh,” You turned around, searching for Elliott where you last saw him, only to be met with a near empty meadow, just a few of the older locals sticking around and beginning to clean up. “Well, just one cup I guess.”
Gus’s mustache twitched upwards with a silent chuckle, from what, you didn’t have the slightest idea, but whatever got you a sip of water was welcomed.
“Need a hand striking?” you asked after downing the small glass, fiddling with it as you walked a few steps over to the trash can.
“I’m sure anyone would appreciate the help. Harvey’s been lending me a hand, how about you see if Pierre or Marnie could use one too?”
“Of course,” you nodded at him, finding Pierre messing around with his easy up tent unsuccessfully.
You silently helped around here and there, making sure Pierre’s goods were neatly packed away and the meadow was free of any decor, flowers and wreaths thrown to the chickens and cattle at Marnie’s ranch on the way back to town. At the intersection of her place, your farm, and the final stretch into town, the last folks bid their goodbyes to one another. Mayor Lewis stopped to chat with Marnie a little as you waved off Pierre and Caroline, eyes catching on the little cabin to your south. Warmly lit windows revealed Elliott and Leah laughing together inside, releasing a sad little smile on your lips.
“Alrighty, Doc, I can handle it from here,” Gus’s voice carried over to you. You turned to see him and Harvey shaking hands firmly, the latter’s eyes catching yours for a brief moment. You turned back to the cabin, smile falling at the glow.
“Get home safe, Gus.”
“Will do. You make sure she does, as well,” your eyes widened as you suddenly entered the conversation, yet you continued to face south, gaze finding itself along the river.
The sound of Gus’s hand cart disappeared as the rush of water took over, until a few footsteps approached you.
“Did you enjoy today as much as you hoped?” Harvey asked, joining you as you stared at the reflection of a periwinkle dusk over the water.
“I had some fun, yes. What about you?” You gently responded, eager to switch it back to him.
“I mainly helped Gus out at the bar. Thirsty folks today.”
“Is that so?” you asked, feeling the conversation drop off as if it fell into the riverbed.
“Yeah…” Harvey let the energy plummet, the sounds of late spring joining in on the river’s chorus.
Your chest rose and fell again, disappointment fuelling the almost dramatic exhale.
“Looks like neither of us had the festival experience we hoped for.”
Harvey’s head fell forward a little, trying to get a look at your expression, but your face was craned too far towards the river for him to get a read.
In his perspective, although you were being rather thrown around instead of waltzing, you were having a textbook time of your life. To hear otherwise not only shocked him, but a little ember of upset flickered inside his chest.
“It’s getting late. Can I walk you home?” he asked gently, almost too soft for you to hear. Your head was elsewhere, but you nodded, turning towards the woodland path that led to your home. Harvey looked back to where you stood a moment before, quickly scanning the surroundings until he saw what clearly set you off- Elliott in clear view, Leah not far off, probably the thought of you long forgotten. Harvey shook his head with a bit of uncharacteristic rage, attempting to chill out as he sped walk to catch up with your melancholic gait.
Twigs crunched beneath your feet, your blundstone boots being the only shoes you had that could handle a dance in the dewy meadow. They were tattered from their multi-purpose usage, work boots and casual outings alike, unlike Elliott’s freshly polished leather loafers.
You sighed as you watched your step, the foolish memory of being swept off your feet feeling childish.
Harvey stayed silent beside you, not unusual for him as you’d come to learn, but there was a thick tension in the air that was usually absent from your interactions. You took a moment away from your self pity to look up at him, finding a sharp line between his brows, furrowed with a foreign frustration.
“Is everything alright, Harvey?” You asked gently, coming out of your self-concerned stupor.
“Fine, fine,” he brushed off with a wave of his hand, his suit jacket thrown over his shoulder by the other one. You didn’t notice he’d rolled up his sleeves, probably a little worn from helping Gus out all day.
You curled your lips to the side, realising how selfish your nasty mood was. Harvey had deliberately expressed to you how excited he was for this, and you’d seen how much joy he harbored in years past. Even at the Luau, he’d be one of the only townspeople to bust a move. Today, you had danced like you never had before, although hardly by your own grace. He was practically forced to sit aside.
“I’m sorry things didn’t work out today.” You offered to him, hoping that you would be able to get a hint of his usual lighthearted nature in return.
“Yeah, me too.” He replied, the tips of his mustache turning downwards with a little grimace.
A grimace!
You’d never seen him express such distaste. Your eyes flashed their surprise before you focused on the forest path again, letting the crunch of detritus take over the lack of conversation.
The southern border of your property was in sight, alight by two lanterns at the gate. You made a reach for the chain, but Harvey made it to the gate before you, letting out a huff as he swung it open to let you through. The chain rattled loudly as he placed it back into the latch. Coming up behind your waiting figure and taking a few rough steps ahead of you.
Never in your life had you seen him in such a mood. If he were any other man, you’d say he was bordering on throwing a fit. This gentle simmer in him, though, it seemed more like he was a kettle with a lot of steam built up inside.
“Well,” you sighed, making it to the end of the walkway between your vegetable fields, intersecting with the cobblestone path that led straight to Harvey’s clinic. “I guess this is good night.”
“Yeah,” Harvey slowed as you climbed up the steps to your door. He stopped at the base, running a hand over his mustache with that same distraught look over his face.
You could clearly tell he’d had a bad day, but never had that made him so visibly discontented. Guilt panged through your chest as you looked down at him, his gaze averted to the dark road towards his place.
“You deserved a better day, Harvey. I really am sorry.”
Harvey looked up at you, his distraught expression turning concerned.
“You have nothing to apologize for, (Y/N). I’m sorry, I’ve been letting my mood get the better of me.”
“No, no, you have nothing to apologize for, either. You were so excited for today.”
“Ah,” Harvey leaned back a little, a hint of embarrassment on his cheeks. “That’s not quite why I’m in a bit of a slump. I appreciate your concern, though.”
You smiled in relief, shoulders loosening at the thought.
“I see. Well, I really appreciate you walking back with me. Next year, I’ll save a dance for you, okay?”
Harvey’s posture straightened, a gentle blush rolling to his cheeks. You flashed him another smile before reaching for your door, opening it only an inch before you felt your other hand taken in a grasp.
You turned slightly, your form in the lamplight creating a glowing shadow over Harvey, who held your hand with a startled expression. He had taken one step towards your door, leg lifted onto the stairs as if frozen in motion.
“You deserved better, too, (Y/N).”
Your breath caught on a shaky inhale, cold air hitching in your chest.
“I’m sorry if, I just- gah,” Harvey tongue tied himself, looking down at his foot for a moment before shaking his head and speaking towards the ground. “I’m sorry if I’m too bold, or crossing a boundary here. But I saw how he danced with you. How he moved you around, without you in thought. You’re an excellent dance partner, I’ve seen it myself. And he wasted your talents and enthusiasm on his mindless poetic venture. Not to mention him flailing you around like that, threatening a subscapularis strain or tendonitis, maybe even whiplash-”
“Harvey,” you started, facing him fully. He looked up at you as you shifted your position, a fire behind his softening features.
“He took your partnership for granted. You are phenomenal, (Y/N), and he’s a damned fool for not seeing that, for relishing in that. Anyone would be.”
Your lips parted, unable to form or think of a single word in response to what was being said to you- about you.
Did Harvey really see you in such a high regard? Did he actually just vocalize it- the kind of perception you’d always wished to be seen within? What lenses did he view you through, what dreamlike prescription sat within his browline frames?
The wind tousled at his hair, the same gust threatening to blow your hyacinth crown off your head. Harvey took another step upwards, his other hand reaching the side ribbons to keep them in place. He released them with a brush of the backs of his fingers against your cheek. You brought your other hand up to his, keeping him there for just a moment as you found his gaze once again.
“I-” you breathed, much croakier than you’d intended, “I’ve never, um, been told that before.”
“You deserve to hear it every day,” he whispered at you, some of that anger from before biting into the words. “I-” his brows faltered with his confidence, his suit jacket almost falling off of his shoulder.
You released his hands to grab it, sliding it down in front of him and into your arms.
“I think I might owe you a drink from before,” you turned your head towards your cracked door, the soft light of your lamp creaking out onto the porch. “Would you like to come in?”
Harvey’s head fell again, this time with a bit of a laugh, as he took the final step onto your porch.
“I’d like that, yes.”
You opened the door behind you the rest of the way, letting him duck into the frame ahead of you. He’d been to your house a few times before, but never this late into the evening, or after a fit of such passionate verbiage.
He leant against the closed door as you hung his coat on your rack, the intensive gaze from earlier having fully transformed into something much more tender.
“I’ll go grab us some glasses,” you excused yourself to the kitchen just a few steps away, Harvey followed slowly, standing near your kitchen table, running his fingers along the wood grain. You came back from the cabinets quickly, stopping at his side to pour into the two stemless cups you laid before you. The two of you clinked your glasses together, eyes in solid contact as you both tasted your first sips.
“Can I ask you something?” you asked as you swallowed, eyes ripping away to look into the lowly luminated pool of white wine.
“Mm,” Harvey hummed into his glass before placing it down. “Please.”
“I don’t mean to sound conceited, but,” you took another sip for courage’s sake, “Were you going to ask me to dance today? Or was that all in my head?”
“I…” he began, trailing off a bit as his confidence weaned, “was intending to, yes.”
“Hmm,” you responded, another shot of guilt hitting your chest. You were hoping he would, but you selfishly took the opportunity with Elliott when it presented itself.
“Can I ask you something?” Harvey asked in return.
“Please,” you mimicked.
“Why him?”
You sighed a bit, turning to face the table a bit more straightforward.
“He kind of took me off guard. I’m a bit of a sucker for a grand gesture, I guess. I got in my head a little thinking that it was some whimsical or whatever moment, and I just,” you sighed again, trying your hardest to find the words. “I really wanted to be wanted, I guess. And there was no way I could say no to that,” you gestured broadly with your hands, “whole thing, in public no less. I guess grand gestures mean nothing when they’re scarce of pure intention.” you mumbled into your cup before taking a sip and swishing it around in embarrassment.
“Barren, I’d say,” Harvey said, his inflection far less crass than his words.
“I don’t mean to be so miserable and ungrateful. It was a great time, really. Just… not what I hoped for.”
Harvey leaned his hands onto the table, bringing himself down to your level, turning his head to where you stood.
“What is it you were hoping for?”
You couldn't really say it out loud, the thought of it making you feel like you had something sticky caught in your throat. You couldn’t miss his gaze either, hazel, fiery and intent- there it was.
An invitation, significantly less obvious than getting on one knee with a gentle kiss against your sun kissed skin. The phrase, however cryptic or subtle, was filled with more intention than an afternoon of poetic pirouettes or soliloquized sonnets. No, Harvey did not provide an empty gesture, he provided a question.
You let out a little breath as you scanned his eyes, as if looking for confirmation within his consensual ask.
A subtle dart of his irises from yours, left to right, down to your lips, flickering; if you’d blinked, you’d have missed it.
He’d done the same thing when you first arrived at the dance hours ago- you figured it was a trick of the light, or him wondering why you’d arrived from the treeline and not the pathway. He was observing you, noticing you while lying in wait.
You pressed forward, placing a brush of a kiss against his sweet, wine polished lips. He didn’t push back our pull away, letting you communicate your hopes in their soft silence.
You pulled back an inch, blinking at your little courage.
Harvey opened his eyes again, remaining attentive as you continued to quietly communicate your needs.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to overstep,” you whispered, unable to peel yourself away any further. Harvey shook his head with a click of his tongue, making you nearly break your eyes away with a bit of embarrassment. He caught you before you could, pulling you by your waist to pin you between him and the table.
“You…” he couldn’t get the rest of his thought out as he stared at your lips, eyebrows pained and irises aflame. “I would let you overstep in whatever way you pleased if it meant I got a fraction of your time.”
Your cheeks raged with blush as his breath hit you, leaving a trail of goosebumps from your neck to your fingertips. He reached around you, grabbing the wine glasses from your table, turning at the waist to place them on the counter behind him. All the while, you were between his legs, your arms behind you to keep you from folding backwards. He turned back to you, gently removing the flower crown from the top of your head and hanging on the side of a chair.
“Please,” he huffed, hands finding their way to the tops of your hips again.
You raised your chin in invitation, and Harvey responded with a deep kiss, hands bringing you to press against his chest. Yours abandoned the walnut behind you, immediately grabbing at the back of his head. He didn’t waste a moment longer, laying you backwards and placing your head down gently.
He stood again, a little gasp leaving your lips as he broke away, but the hand behind your head traced across your collarbone and down your chest, touch lightening as he brushed over the center of your breasts, fingers flipping to their backs across your abdomen. You shuddered as he hovered over your lower stomach, gently playing with the folds of your dress at the base of its bodice.
“Harvey,” you breathed, lifting your legs ever so slightly, the fold of your dress begging to pool at your hips and reveal your thighs. He sucked a deep breath, loosening his bowtie just a smidge to let his warming body breathe. As much as he wanted to take you in, what he really craved was your lips. Running his hands along your thighs he fell forward again, the two of you softly moaning into one another. His fingers toyed at the hemline of your underwear, and you grasped his hand, making him break from the kiss. “Wait…”
He nodded, pulling away, but you followed him up, sitting upright once again on the table, scooching yourself as close to him as possible. You could feel him against his nice trousers, almost as solid as the table beneath you. The guilt of leaving him behind at the dance ate at you, and you placed a gentle kiss on his neck.
“I already had my dance today. Let me give a little.”
He gave you a confused look as you guided his shoulders to the side, forcing him to turn around as you slipped off the table and fell to your knees, hands placed against his thighs for a moment of stability.
“Oh, Yoba,” he huffed, now having to lean against the table himself. You unbuckled his belt and released him, the air of your apartment hitting his painfully hard length. Your breath followed suit as you licked a small stripe at the base of him, then placed a soft kiss over his tip. Salty beads of precum graced your rosy lips, shimmering over the worn lip gloss that he noted so keenly earlier. His hands found their way into your tousled hair, the eagerness and leftover hint of jealousy almost making him grip at your scalp. He hesitated, opting to squeeze the side of the table instead as you began to take his length into the warm depths of your mouth. You looked up at him through your lashes, feeling yourself dampening over the sight of his flustered expression. His jaw was agape, lower lip almost trembling, eyebrows contorted upwards as a haze took over his eyes. You took him in further and he slightly bucked his hips into you, the hand on your head holding you in place. He was melting beneath and above you, your ministrations giving him the comfort and connection he so deeply craved.
You picked up the pace a little, bobbing your head with the fluctuations of obscene sounds, little whimpers of praise leaving Harvey’s bewildered lips. He twitched increasingly, that grip on the back of your head almost tightening until he pulled you back gently, a pop resounding through your kitchen as your head fell back.
“Not yet, I want-” he gulped, both of your chests heaving with self control. “I want to feel you, so fucking badly…”
You stood slowly, helping Harvey discard his tie and unbutton his shirt through kisses. He twitched again, tasting himself on your lips. He was so worked up, you could feel him becoming impatient. A guttural sound worked its way from his throat and he flipped you around, placing rough kisses to the back of your neck as he lifted your skirt.
“Can I,” he grunted in between kisses, and you could’ve sworn you felt his teeth against your shoulder as he ground against your wettened panties. “Be honest with you?”
“Please,” you whispered, turning your head to the side as you pushed back on his bare cock, the thin layer of cloth barely keeping him from you.
“I was so,” he wrapped an arm around you, grabbing at your breast with far less gentleness than earlier, “so fucking jealous. Seeing him on his knees, seeing his hands on your hips, yoba, these hips,” He pulled your panties down with his other hand, your cunt almost dripping if it weren’t for the soaked fabric.
You gasped as he squeezed at your ass with one hand, the other leaving your breast to trail across your folds in exploration. Cold air hit your opening as he spread your lips with his fingers, and he let out a sharp groan.
“All I ever wanted was for this to be mine…,” he stuck a finger inside, and you wasted no time clenching over him as he curled it against your soft spot. “All mine.”
He pressed another finger in and you fully leant forward on your arms, legs spreading in welcome. He sunk them in and out, covering his knuckles in your sweet slick, like nectar from the finest fertile bloom. His wrist twisted and you writhed as he found the perfect angle, your back arching a little as your toes pressed your ass towards him, giving yourself to him fully.
His fingers slipped out fully, making you whine in defiance, but they found their way inside again, this time his middle and ring finger, and he truly began to fuck you with his hand, pressing his other against the small of your back for stability. Your eyes rolled back as you moaned out, the pace he set explicitly informing you of just how fucking angry he was earlier. The toes you so relied on to hold you up curled beneath you, making you sink into his fingers further.
“Harvey!” you cried out, a white hot wave of pleasure approaching you at the speed of light. “I’m- I’m going to- fuck!” Your thighs spasmed as you were hit with your orgasm, Harvey bent over you and breathing on your neck. The hand holding you down brushed your hair from your ear where he placed a kiss before whispering.
“Please, (Y/N),” he panted against you. “I can’t take seeing you with anyone else.”
“Damn it Harvey,” You almost screamed at him, grinding your soaked and spent pussy back up against him. “I couldn’t look at anyone else if I tried anymore. I need- ah…” he sunk his painfully hard cock inside you, reaching the hilt with ease thanks to your orgasm. Your eyes rolled back, arms falling off the far edge of the table as you laid your forehead down. The perfect fit, his tip suctioned inside the deepest point of you as you convulsed over him. Harvey stilled inside you, his hand finding its way beneath your chest to pull you up against him. Your head fell back on his chest and your eyes met again - his expression mirrored your own - you could see in the reflection of his glasses. The both of you, fucked out, eyebrows reaching to the ceiling, mouths parted, every inch of your bodies connected. You ground against him and he pulled you even closer, holding you so tightly that his fingers burned into you as a beautiful scorching brand.
He let you relax around him, making sure you fully came down from your first high before he set a slow pace, bunching the skirt of your dress at your waist.
Still slightly overstimulated, your pussy clenched over him in an indistinguishable and unintentional rhythm , making him go from rolling thrusts into semi-frantic pumping, the two of you riding along the edge like a surfer within a tunnel wave. The water graced your fingertips as you sunk more of your weight back into Harvey, and the hand on your chest came up to your neck, forcing you to look directly at him as he fucked into you with a devoted fervor.
“Wanna make you mine,” he begged, looking down just a few inches into your eyes. “Mine…” he mumbled unintelligibly, all caution thrown to the lustful wind.
“I’m yours Harvey, I’m yours…” you cooed back, your voice coming out scratchy as you craned your head back. “Take me.”
“Mine,” he repeated, dumb on his desire. The hand over your hip found your clit and you grasped at his arm, keeping him on your sensitive bud as you began to circle your hips against him. The friction sent you reeling and your legs trembled beneath you, a soundless cry leaving your wet lips as you came a second time. Harvey released his grip over your throat and wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling your hips into him as he stilled once again, thick ropes of his greed spilling into your gracious and accepting womb.
The two of you stayed that way for a near minute, pressed up against one another at your table’s edge until you could both relax. The convulsing of your walls slowed over his finished cock, but he didn't pull out, instead just placing a firm kiss to your shoulder as you both caught your breath. A gentle smile found its way over your tired face as you looked up at his softened gaze.
“You have to tell me,” you breathed, relaxing into his chest. “What were you hoping for?”
Harvey chuckled a little, kissing your forehead before leaning his chin on your shoulder, rubbing circles into your stomach.
“You just found out.”
