Ok guys, allow me to level up your chicken tender and chicken nugget game.
So as most of you probably know, I'm allergic to garlic [insert vampire joke here]. Meaning I cannot have any ketchup or mustard commercially available. Or BBQ sauce. Or most, almost all, pre-made sauces. But I buy these big bags of gluten free chicken tenders as an easy low-spoons meal. They're too boring plain. And look, I could just look up a recipe for ketchup or bbq sauce and swap the garlic for chives, but no. I figure if I gotta make it myself, I'm gonna innovate. And the recipe has gotta be something I can make in 5 minutes or less, or else it won't be low enough spoon anymore. Here's what I arrived at:
~1 Tbs low fodmap taco sauce (kind of sucks on its own), but if you aren't allergic to garlic just use normal taco sauce
~1 tsp soy sauce
Quick dribble of maple syrup/a small amount
GENEROUS QUANTITIES of hot Hungarian paprika
Combine in small bowl and stir, scale up or down as desired.
Reason I'm being a bit vague is because it really depends on taste and your mood. Taste as you go, if you make too much, stick the extra in the fridge for next time *before* you dip chicken in it, and it'll be good for a week or so. Sometimes I go a bit sweeter for a chinese takeout-ish taste, usually I tend towards more acidic (a little more soy sauce, tiny amount of maple) for a thinner, almost like...mexicanish teriyakish flavor? I like to transport myself into Bram Stoker's hit 1987 novel Dracula with my paprika usage, but you might use less.
You'll never want ketchup again, trust me
absolutely zero spoons. gonna pull an all-nighter because I don't wanna fail
Any tips for practicing while in the hospital?
Well a lot of how I practice now can probably transfer to in-patient or ER. I've also been in both situations so I'll share.
Here is my low spoon & zero spoon post that might help.
What I do now that I think can transfer:
Say deities names when I do some action; either out loud or in my mind. So if you get administered medication by a nurse you could say the names of health Gods in your mind. Hellenic: Apollo Paian, Asklepios, Asklepiades. Sumerian: Ninisina, Gula, Damu. If you drink a liquid or when you are administered saline. Hellenic: Okeanos, The Potamoi Sumerian: Enki. You can pick your own things you'll attach to saying a deity name.
If you watch TV (if there is a TV in the room or if you have your laptop) dedicate what your watching to a God(s). Watch the show "with them."
Do things with the gods in mind. If I'm using duolingo I think of and ask for help from Nabû. If I'm reading I think of and ask for help Geštug Nisaba.
The water offerings at sink as described in the post I linked above. If you can go to the bathroom on your own or take a shower on your own.
Things I've actually done when in the hospital:
Have my prayer beads with me even if I wasn't using them. This is what I do in ER.
Wear devotional jewelry if I can. Also what I do in ER. My medical bracelet counts here.
Draw symbols of my deities on a piece of paper with markers that they had provided to me while in-paitent. So I drew a flame for Hestia as one example. This was not intricate, it was about the quality of a 4th grader drawing during indoor recess.
I had a small travel altar for my dorm room. I brought that with me for in-paitent and set it up in a small place that was out of the way in the room.
One of my easy-peasy fridge-cleaning fast dinner: Pao-Fan!
Got leftover rice? Random veggies? Stir-fry leftover? Well this is for you!
boil water in pot/ chop veggies/ put in rice & veggie & leftover / season with salt & pepper/ bring to a boil/ cook on med. heat for 5 minutes. EAT!
Tips: 1. use veggies that cook quick. Frozen corn, zucchini, dried seaweed, bell peppers, etc. 2. leafy greens/salad lettuce works, just add them in the last 30 seconds. 3. got leftover pockets of ramen seasoning packets? Great if all you got is rice and veggies!
In the photo I got Zucchini and seaweed brown rice porridge. Super easy, so delicious, budget friendly, and nice on the tummy.
