A meta in response to Taemin's opening VCR for Veil Arena Tour, written by @/king_of_pop_taemin on instagram:
In the darkness of the defocused light, a veil appears. First it is white lace, delicate and angelic, then a black net that hides the face, revealing only the breath and lips. The camera is defocused, a white lace veil and a black knitted net appear on Taemin's face, only the nose and lips are visible. The church choir sounds, the smoke of incense fills the stage. ▪︎ The white veil is innocence, sacredness, purity. ▪︎ The black veil is mystery, prohibition, hidden darkness, duality. The smoke of incense hangs in the air, and the church choir raises its voices, creating a ritual silence filled with anxiety and anticipation. Against the backdrop of the eclipse, drops of blood fall to the ground and turn into black roses, flowers born from suffering. ▪︎A bouquet of black roses is a sacrifice, a connection with blood and suffering. ▪︎Bowing down🛐 is an act of dedication, humility, ritual submission. The image combines beauty and threat, turning Taemin into a priest and a victim at the same time. Then a snake, a symbol of temptation, emerges from the shadows, wraps its threat around the air. Taemin, kneeling, holds a bouquet of these roses, obediently bowing his head to the floor, like a priest and a victim in one person. A bitten apple appears, filled with ants, cracks and turns black, a dark liquid flows out of it - life decomposes, beauty becomes decay. ▪︎Apple🍎 - original sin, temptation, knowledge of the forbidden. ▪︎Ants🐜 – decomposition, passing from life to death. ▪︎Black liquid – decomposition, destruction, decay of beauty. This reinforces the theme of the fall. Sand pours out of a small bowl of ashes, which takes the form of an old teddy bear. ▪︎The cup/goblet is a reference to the Eucharist, but in a distorted form. The Eucharist is one of the main rites of Christianity, especially in the Catholic and Orthodox traditions. Its essence is that as a sign of the body and blood of Christ, believers accept bread and wine. This is a symbol of sacrifice, purification and unity with God. And then the bear burns and crumbles again, turning into the smallest molecules. ▪︎Fire – purification, transformation, rebirth.
This is the possibility of rebirth from destruction, the metamorphosis of life through death and fire. This is a symbol of memory, childhood, innocence. A flower is born from light, then the flower turns into a tree. ▪︎A flower turns into a tree - this is growth, development, the cyclicality of nature. Life and death are intertwined, creating a cycle of rebirth. A rope appears from the sand, which in Taemin's hands turns into a snake, twisting his hands. The rope is control, restrictions and connections of the past. Taemin unravels the rope and dissolves in ash and sand, but the snake comes to life again in his hand. The snake approaches the camera, opening its mouth - this danger becomes tangible, unstoppable, it goes beyond the stage, beyond the screen, involving each viewer and reminding of the endless cycle of temptation and trials. And then a thick, white mask appears. Behind the scenes, black and white butterfly wings flicker, symbolizing metamorphosis, transition to a new state. Slowly, almost sacredly, Taemin removes his mask. His hair is pulled back, his gaze is deep and mysterious, magnetic. The true face of the ritual, uniting light and darkness, life and death, suffering and beauty, is revealed to the viewer. This is how "Veil" begins. Like a mystical rite, in which every drop of blood, every ray of light, every flap of the butterfly's wings turns into a symbol of the eternal cycle of destruction and rebirth, testing and purification. The viewer becomes a witness to the mystery that is hidden behind the fabric of the veil. This is a visual and emotional story about the transformation of the soul through suffering, pain, temptation, struggle and rebirth, and the scene with the veil and mask is the culmination, where the artist's inner world is revealed to the viewer. There are these lines in the song Veil and here is their meaning: These lines create an association with the image of a fallen angel experiencing a fall: "Deep down where angels fall" is a direct reference to the fall of light, the loss of innocence, the fall from a sacred state into darkness. "Cold stare, distorted scream" expresses the pain and despair that accompanies the fall, loss and isolation. "Burnt to the ground"/"Burn my heart in a blackened pile of ash" is a feeling of destruction, purification through suffering; an angel who has survived the trials remains vulnerable, but transformed. "I have nowhere to hide, I carry anxiety within me" is a feeling of loneliness and inner conflict that is characteristic of a fallen angel, caught between light and darkness. It is a metaphorical depiction of the fall, temptation and internal struggle, where the hero finds himself between light and darkness, suffering and purification. By @king_of_pop_taemin
