All But One EX-LTTE Rehabilitated Combatants Released
At a recent event held at the Vanni Punthottam Rehabilitation Camp, three rehabilitated former LTTE soldiers were reunited with their relatives yesterday. According to the Vavuniya Punthottam Rehabilitation Center Director, Colonel Asela Obeysekera, 12,190 former LTTE soldiers, who surrendered to the Sri Lankan government forces towards the end of the armed conflict have been released to be a part of the community’s fabric. They were also provided with required educational and self-employment opportunities as well as fishing gear, which amounts to Rs.26 million this year alone. “Nearly 12190 former LTTE combatants, who surrendered to the army underwent Rehabilitation and were reintegrated into society.
