It's the final day of coleoctober and we have this giant!

The Elephant Stag Beetle, Lucanus elaphus

Now you might be thinking, "ah yes, elaphus, for elephant!" BUT NO! Elaphus is Greek for deer, which is extremely fitting for this guy, yes? He really seems to be sporting some fancy antlers, which they similarly use to grapple with other males! These guys can be found in the woods of North America.

And now for something completely different! I’m pretty far from being an artist, but my more art-inclined friends have inspired me to give Inktober a try. I’m hoping to improve my drawing and sketching abilities, even if just a little bit, and feel more comfortable about sitting down to draw. As anyone who knows or just follows me would expect, I’m most interested in drawing up bugs and band logos. Please don’t judge me too harshly. Constructive criticism is welcome. Inktober drawing for October 1st, 2018: Lucanus elaphus - the elephant stag beetle. A gorgeous insect that I’ve always found to be very inspiring, as well as an insect that makes me wish I lived just a bit more to the south so I could be within it’s native range.
