Lugh, Golden Sun Warm Breeze You Energize Me
Here are my altars and décor for Lughnasadh 2019!
Happy Lúnasa!
The pictures are of my altar, and the three parts individually so that you can see the details, my living room/family altar and up close of the basket, some more hours while decor, and my altar cloths.
I just wanted to some them because I Marie Kondo’d them today when setting up my altar! 🤣
Have a happy harvest!
“Storm Song” by PHIDEL
I'll send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home, Ooh carried on the breeze, you'll never find me gone, Oh faster than the post train burning like a slow flame on, I'll send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home.
Even though the landscape stretches like a hard day, Even though the old man says I have a fool's plan, Oh despite the distance, you will see my footprints, I will raise my flagpole, I will turn these tables, 'round...
Send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home, Ooh carried on the breeze, you'll never find me gone, Oh faster than the post train burning like a slow flame on, I'll send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home.
Though I've said the worse things, and I can't reverse things, Secrets of the floor lay gambled in the doorway, Oh I've made the mistakes and I have learnt the hard way, Even though you leave me, crying like a banshee, ooh...
Send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home, Ooh carried on the breeze, you'll never find me gone, Oh faster than the post train burning like a slow flame on, I'll send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home.
I'll send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home, Ooh carried on the breeze, you'll never find me gone, Oh faster than the post train burning like a slow flame on, I'll send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home.
This is an excerpt from a 14th century poem; this portion is telling about Lugh's arrival at Temhair during the larger story of the Cath Mai...
'Lugh's Arrival at Tara'
Revealed to Lugh, lover of Teamhra in the east in Eamhain, so he went to search the whole earth for Té's Ramparts, Teamhair [Tara].
closed was the city against Lugh's arrival, the choicest of warriors; touched with force the sharp-sided, smooth ramparts struck the door-wood.
The King's doorman said to the great warrior, whose anger was swift: "From where comes the man, keen, young, bright flower, red cheeked."
To the King's Doorman said Lugh who never hesitated in reciprocal wounding: "I am myself a poet of Eamhain Abhlach* of swans and yews."
"Not merited", said Teamhair's doorman, "Coming from conflict;"

By any chance do you know of a Celtic God/Goddess I could ask for a blessing on my bow or to help me with my archery? Thank you!
I know that this ask is probably really old (my app sucks at notifying me when I get messages) but I thought I’d still answer it because it’s an intriguing question.I don’t know of any Gaelic deities associated with bows specifically. Lugh is good at pretty much everything, and is known for defeating Balor, the king of the Fomorians, by piercing his eye with an enchanted weapon (I can’t remember what it was called, but it was like a rock or ball of clay?) so we know he has excellent aim which is useful for archery! The weapon Lugh is usually associated with is the spear, but because he is many skilled I’m sure he’d kick ass with a bow as well. Perhaps you can ask Lugh to bless your bow to ensure it shoots with his incredible accuracy and strength?
Another somewhat related deity I would say is the Cailleach. She’s not associated with bows, but rather with hunting. She’s said to be the protector of deer and other woodland animals. If you use your bow for hunting, she may be a beneficial companion. There’s a story about two young hunters that are about to leave on a deer hunt. Their father tells them that they have to make an offering or thanks to the Cailleach when they complete their kill. The two young hunters get so caught up in the thrill of the chase and the hunt that when they finally bring down the massive stag, they’re so excited and proud that they rush off with the deer without giving thanks to the Cailleach. They leave the deer’s body outside and run in the house to grab their father to show off their impressive kill. When they return, they find the deer has vanished without a trace. Because the brothers forgot to make an offering of thanks to the Cailleach, she reclaimed the stag.
In my readings, I haven’t really come across any stories pertaining to bows and archery. Most heroes and warriors I’ve read about use spears and lances and other melee weapons. However, this may be because I read mostly Irish myth. I’m not as familiar with lore from Scotland, Gaul, or Wales.
If anyone else has anything to add, please do!
When I met Lugh, I had the impression of golden light and harp music, and to make sure I knew to whom I was speaking, I asked, "Are you Apollo?" He thought that was pretty funny; I had the distinct impression Lugh thought Apollo could only dream of being as accomplished as He is. I'm even more amused as I learn more about Lugh and find that's a pretty accurate statement.
This was a wonderful experience to read about!
