You've shown me your true self, and what I love was the lie, perfect lie, that's been destroyed...
23rd January 2007 - "Japanese New Look" "Butterfly" collection: this date marks the 60th anniversary of Christian Dior's groundbreaking New Look collection and the 10th anniversary of John Galliano's tenure at the house that inspired the 2007 Spring/Summer haute couture collection.
The collection, titled "Japanese New Look," was presented on this day and drew inspiration from Puccini's opera "Madama Butterfly," which tells the story of American Lieutenant Pinkerton's abandonment of Cio-Cio San, a Japanese geisha.
Galliano celebrated these milestones with a show that combined elements of Japanese culture—such as kimonos, origami, obis, and geisha aesthetics—with Dior's iconic New Look. This coincides with meeting Daniel Muir in June 2007, for the very first time. A chance meeting that would change both of our lives irrevocably forever...
Whatever follows, this is a love letter to Cho Cho San, in whatever form they choose to show themselves now and forever, and also to the relationship that I thought I had with Dan... We did have something special... for sometime... arigatou gozaimasu
