I mean “Kris copes with uncomfortable and painful feelings, particularly the duties unwillingly hoisted upon them (by Carol?) and the power they feel they have over others’ lives (as a human with violent thoughts in a town full of monsters) by ripping their SOUL so they don’t have to be themselves for a while and can compartmentalize those scary emotions” does kind of seem like a valid reading of their situation as of Chapter 4.

Yeah, you feel me! I think it's a good reading to look at the story with when you think about how much has been given to us in the way of Kris being an emotionally closed off and unwell teenager who wasn't really talking to anyone before the game starts

Do you think it's valid to think of practically every major Psychonauts character as a little bit plural? IDK, it's just that practically all of them except I think Sasha and Milla have NPCs running around in their brains with personalities and such and having other people in your mental world doesn't feel entirely singular. Obviously Fred and Cassie are plural On Purpose, but then there's stuff like the Milkman and Loboto's RoR mental world...

I think that's a totally valid reading for the characters. I'm not plural myself so I leave the headcanoning to the People but I am fond of plural readings I wouldn't have thought of. Like once I saw a plural Bob Zanotto headcanon, and I'm like cool! hell yea! I don't remember what their points were but I thought it was cool, like nice more to go around.

this is maybe one of the best games to back up a system reading with evidence thru analyzing how their mind spaces work. Who's to say these NPCs with their own little lives and thoughts aren't parts of a system, yk?

We actually have a BIG family, really big. But for some reason, my mom, me, and my sisters are the main people my sister ditches her kids with. While my sister isn't on speaking terms with most of her baby daddy's family (& they're messed up people too, i think I've said less than 100 words to the baby daddy himself) as well as several of our aunts, there's multiple family members (like our more than 30+ cousins, most of which are babysitting age appropriate) that offer to babysit & that my sister could ask but she just doesn't. I don't know why.

Do you have any resources or suggestions for a Reform Jew trying to reconnect with Judaism?

Many synagogues who went to streaming in 2020 may still have that available, so if you aren't able to hang out in person, consider hanging out virtually. Reading blogs and fiction written from the inside. Listen to music, like the Hadar Ensemble. But yeah check out Meir's post, it's a good one and really thorough.

I don't know about any other shuls but mine always seems to have a lot of people who are new or exploring -- this might be a College Town Thing -- so if whatever you have nearby is like that, you won't even stand out that much as a person who doesn't know all the melodies yet, or whatever.

Random Character Ideas

A Warforged Samurai Fighter from Fantasy Japan who was literally “born” so to speak to serve his lord, but ended up outliving him b/c Warforged and is now a ronin.

A College of Spirits Bard who learns songs from their dead ancestors by carrying around their bones, and has to keep said bones well-cleaned and maintained or their family will get pissed off.

I mean in terms of roleplaying as the character of the soul I'm currently prescribed to the Krissociation Meta, which asks the daring question of "what if Kris' SOUL, the culmination of their being, is in fact a part of Kris and not some outside possessing demon entity" and the character you're playing as is just part of the wildly dysfunctional Kris system.

P.S. That being said I still think that Krissociation Meta backs up the SOUL spelling out swears. Kris sings swears at church. They would 100% start spelling out the fuck word on that board.

Oh 100% I can totally see that vision too. I love the idea of Kris being a system, that's a really cool headcanon!

to jump off of that. It's really easy for me to get swept up in the general fanon perception of kris & the soul having a purely antagonistic relationship. I constantly have to remind myself that it is not, in fact, 100% canon or the ONLY way to read the text.

if I'm really pressed to think on it hard, I'm STILL of the mind that I was way back when chapter 1 released that "the SOUL is some COMPLETELY external force POSSESSING KRIS!!!!" is kind of a... reductive? way to examining the text.

It reminds me of how I think the Chara Flavor Text theory from undertale is at once both an interesting way to incorporate chara into the narrative AND it reduces Frisk's presence in the narrative too much for my liking. Like, you're telling me all these funny ways Frisk interacts with the world is JUST chara talking? boring! it would also prove flowey was "right" in a weird way in his behavior to treat the player like chara, so negative points there too.

My personal reading of Kris' situation back when ch1 came out was some kind of literalized dissociation in response to trauma. like they were presented with the fact that they're responsible for not just their own well being but also two new friends. Their responsibility as a leader was represented by the SOUL taking damage for everyone. and that stressed them out too much so they ripped their heart out.

These days w/all the new information we have it's implied this has been going on even before the start of the game, so who knows honestly! I sure don't have all the pieces!!
