Ok. There is no first because I made entire clans at a time and then did all of their ancestors and future children. There were detailed family trees color coded in crayon. But the one I remember most vividly was named Birdsong and she was white and had one green eye and one blue eye and eventually became the deputy after, if I remember correctly, killing her brother for treason. I was 6.

Hey, I’m not trying to start stuff, but maybe you shouldn’t promote greedfall? It’s very racist and tries to turn indigenous people’s genocide into a “morally grey situation”. I can send you links to posts made by people who are better at explaining things than I am?

Ultimately we won’t know how they handle the colonialist themes till the game is out. I enjoy a lot of things that have politics I disagree with (I’m a trans communist, it would be impossible not to) and while I of course hope that the game doesn’t end up promoting colonialism (honestly, from trailers it looks to me like they’re going to clumsily criticise it) it’s a common enough feature in a lot of games and I don’t feel like judging a mid-tier game from a newcomer dev teams more harshly than I judge, say, Dragon Age and Mass Effect, which also both have very troubling politics in places and an often clumsy take on colonialism.

The whole “both sides” narrative is a story element present in almost every game with warring factions and it’s almost the norm that it represent an oppressor vs oppressed narrative in this manner rather than anything that can be called even remotely grey. It’s a trope I hate (wrote a paper for uni on hating it last year actually lol), but I’d scarcely be able to play CRPGs if I refused to play any game that had it. Eg. Dragon Age also treats the oppression of elves and mages as partly justified, and let’s not even get started on how The Witcher series treats the scoia’tael…

None of this is to say that it’s not a completely valid reason to avoid the game if you want to for these reasons. That’s fine. But all media is problematic and we ultimately don’t know what the narrative of this game is going to be till it’s out, so we don’t know how bad (or not - hopefully, unlikely) it’s going to be. Obviously I’ll criticise it relentless while playing it when I encounter stuff that bugs me, like I do with a lot of things, and I’ll hope that like how the DA team learned from criticism of eg biphobia, this team will also learn from criticism, but again, I don’t really see a reason to hold it to different standards than all the deeply problematic AAA games that are generally accepted.

Toriel is definitely someone who runs away from her problems (for example, leaving and locking herself in the ruins) and I think that’s a really good explanation for some of her less-than-stellar parenting moments? Like I’m sure she noticed that Chara wasn’t okay, but she just kinda ignored it and hoped it would go away and pretended everything was fine? Same with kris.

trying to find someone to do a podcast cover is hard. and i really just want this podcast to be successful. it’s so hard to get your podcast out there, to garner fans, when theres so many podcast vying for attention too. i dont care if i get famous, i want my stories to be told.
