Lucy x Hisui - duty
Duty was such a loaded word.
It was her duty to govern. It was her duty to make sure the nobles were happy. It was her duty to spend her childhood learning how to better fulfill her duties.
It was brought out whenever it was convenient, whenever there was even a hint that Hisui might not fall in line. A shackle to confine her and inflict guilt if she rebelled against it.
Never was duty brought up when she performed according to expectations on her own, nor was it ever using in a kinder context. It was never Hisui's duty to love her people. It was never Hisui's duty to be a beloved ruler, only an effective one.
It wasn't her duty to fall in love. Only to marry for an advantage, to have children to carry on her line.
Though fall in love Hisui had. That on it's own could be salvaged. It was modern times, after all. A princess marrying a commoner would have set tongues to wagging but it would have made a story for the ages.
Except that the one beloved in Hisui's heart... was a woman. A person with whom she could not have children. A mage, too, of the most infamous guild in the nation, the most destructive. A celestial mage who understood Hisui on a level few ever could, who held the keys to her very soul. It was a love that went against Hisui's duties to Fiore.
But it was also Hisui's duty to face the consequences of her actions.
And for all that she had given up for duty over the course of her life... she would be damned before she would give up Lucy, too.
