LxMOGI: based almost entirely on a strawberry being put in a pocket but dang if I don’t love to picture it as the funniest one-sided Task Force crush where L is just awkwardly hitting on Mogi with very roundabout compliments about his efficiency

and uh.. hmmm…. I always crack up when I see people say anything about shipping LxHIGUCHI … I can’t remember what the ship name for it was? Gullet or something? Morally devoid rich dudes having a grand ol’ time together or something along those lines. I actually don’t think Higuchi was even that bad in the manga half the time and kinda liked him, so idk it definitely makes me laugh

(LxMogi by Mogi's pov) most of ur hcs for it are by L's pov; what does Mogi (+ gay Mogi hcs) feels about it? Will he reciprocate, even if only platonically? I just want them to be happy together in one way or another

Ahaha ah ok hmmm.... well it's more difficult for me to picture it as a reciprocal thing between them instead of just an unspoken L crush on Mogi. But I imagine Mogi would have to get to know L well enough that they could be comfortable as friends first, and then somehow come out to each other. And that would probably be instigated by L, and probably happen in private while Mogi was doing so much solo work for the investigation behind the scenes. Mogi wouldn't have ever had someone he could be open about that with at work, and it might mean a lot to him after being constantly closeted like that. I could see him being really encouraged by L's trust in him and praise of his hard work, and wanting to do something to show his appreciation and loyalty to L, like make him some really delicious desserts with his culinary skills. I see them having a kinda funny dynamic because L would probably be a bit selfish and a big taker and Mogi would naturally be selfless and a big giver, and both of them would be really good at keeping the whole thing secret from everyone else. If they were discreetly hooking up behind the scenes I wouldn't put it past L to make sly little allusions to it around others sometimes just to inside joke with himself, which is why it's funny to me to imagine little comments like this from L being innuendos of some kind:

And this, this iconic scene is actually a tragic exchange between them in which L is apologizing to Mogi for being chained to the main suspect for months on end and unable to continue their secret love affair anymore... 😔

LxMOGI:

-L thinks it’s hot how good Mogi is at keeping secrets. He also likes a bit of a human enigma, so Mogi never volunteering much personal information about himself the way other task force members like Matsuda do intrigues him. He knows the basics about Mogi’s living situation and career because of the background checks he did on the task force, but wonders about the rest of his life all the time and tries to think of roundabout ways to get to know him personally better

-Mogi doesn’t talk about his personal life much at work because he’s humble, shy, very hard-working, and also because he’s in a very heteronormative work environment. In his pov all the other task force members are obviously straight, and he’s aware that talking about his own sexuality would just make things awkward in ways that he doesn’t want to deal with. Most of his colleagues assume he doesn’t have a girlfriend or a wife just because he’s so focused on his career, and he never tries to persuade them otherwise because he doesn’t want to cause disruptions or have to talk about himself a lot in ways that don’t relate to their work

-L’s really the only one who ever wonders about Mogi’s sexual orientation because he’s the only one intuitive enough to pick up these little vibes, and he knows what it’s like to skirt around these topics rather than definitively confirm or deny things about himself to coworkers. Stuff like when Misa was saying it was creepy and gross for him to handcuff himself to Light, for example… he simply just said “I'm not doing this because I want to,” rather than assuring her and everyone else he wasn’t actually interested in men. Very lowkey bisexual of him imo, lol

-I think it would be cute if L started just favouring Mogi somewhat because he suspected he was gay and felt some sort of solidarity with him there, too. Maybe that’s what the strawberry was all about, haha

-They are both absolutely horrible at making small talk. Being stuck in an elevator with the two of them trying to come up with topics to chit-chat about for a long ride from the bottom to the top of the Task Force skyscraper would be the most uncomfortable experience of life

-Mogi brings the best homemade packed lunches to work, and L checks them out with awe at his culinary skills every day by peeking furtively over the back of his work chair

-Mogi thinks L is very brave for heading up the Kira investigation, and he would never say a bad word about him to anyone no matter what

-When L gave Mogi that secret strawberry their fingertips brushed and he felt himself immediately get very hot under the collar. He is pretty sure Light noticed the blush, but he was too polite to mention anything about it if he did
