IT WAS NEARING NOON AND THERE WAS STILL NO SIGN OF THE DETECTIVE. Namikawa pushed his sleeve up just enough to triple check the time on his watch. His gaze then lifted, flickering towards the large window that ran the length of the cafe front. Right as he did, he caught a glimpse of someone rather familiar starting to walk away and across the street. Touta Matsuda. He lost sight of him soon after and a light sigh parted his lips.

What was that about?

Namikawa grasped the straw of his drink between his thumb and forefinger and stirred it around in the glass, hearing the cubes of ice clink against the side as he did so. After taking one final sip, he leaned back in his chair and let his arms fold loosely across his chest. So, did that mean they weren't going to be having lunch? And after he'd come all this way... Namikawa shook his head and stayed right where he was.

He didn't chase after people.

Hi, since you've read the manga, I wanna know what do you think of Reiji Namikawa and his interactions with other characters in the Yotsuba Group as well as L and Light.

Omg Namikawa! Haven't thought about him in ages, nor read his part of the manga in ages either, but I remember liking him and that he stands out more than most of the other members of the group.

He's maybe a little bit like the Light of the Yotsuba group? He's probably the cleverest and prettiest and most charismatic one in the bunch, anyway. And he has a privileged background and seems to have been groomed into his success from a very young age too, as I imagine he went to Harvard due to it being something his family both helped him do and expected him to do. He's pretty good at looking out for himself and being duplicitous in order to protect his own interests as well, and I think he even managed to trick L and Light at some point a little bit, if I'm remembering correctly. His interactions with Light were probably the most interesting to me, as those are the ones that stand out in my mind the most (sorry, but the stuff with the Yotsuba group is pretty fuzzy in my mind now, and I don't currently have the time to re-read it all again).

Maybe Namikawa is a little bit like how Light could've turned out had he been raised by a cynical, self-interested businessman instead of a cop with a hero complex. Less idealistic and ambitious and probably less imaginative than Light, though. I can't see him going to the crazy lengths Light does in order to achieve his own goals.
