Composers Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Anatoly Lyadov | Николай Римский-Корсаков и Анатолий Лядов by Olga
Thanks to who ever suggested me Lyadov's prelude op. 11 no. 1. That is now one of my favorite pieces. I'm going to start learning it soon :)
And also, for you who don't know the piece, here's a link:

I really like Valentina's interpretation. So clear, but also intense.
Today, for Russian Composers Week, I want to share a piece by Anatoly Lyadov. The Baba Yaga is a kind of boogyman from Slavic cultures. Or rather, a “boogywoman”; she is an old witch that moves around in a giant mortar and pestle, and Lyadov paints a quick portrait of terror and otherworldly anxiety in this short tone poem. It opens with an orchestral blast, like fireworks, chromatic and spiraling winds that introduce us to the main theme. You can almost hear the pestle hitting the dirt to make the Baba Yaga move. The ensemble joins in a rowdy and disjointed dance that’s like a little storm. There is a lot of drama, color, and theatricality in a relatively short concert piece “miniature”, especially in the use of slurred chromatic winds and percussion. The folklore tone painting and dazzling orchestral effects are combined here as a concentrated form of the “Fantastic” Russian musical language.
Stay tuned for more Russian composers this week on musicainextenso!

Prélude in D-flat Major, Op. 57, No. 1 - Anatoly Konstantinovich LYADOV http://tiny.cc/Brillante 🔉 World Classical Piano – Timeless Masterpieces from the Great Composers Prélude in D-flat Major, Op. 57, No. 1 by Anatoly Konstantinovich LYADOV unfolds as a compact study in lyrical restraint and tonal balance. Composed with the author’s characteristic precision, the music avoids overt virtuosity in favor of clarity, color, and quiet refinement. From the opening measures, a gentle warmth emerges, where every harmonic turn feels deliberate and thoughtfully shaped. LYADOV’s pianistic language here reveals his deep respect for craft and proportion. The texture flows with calm assurance, never pressing forward, but instead allowing space for resonance and subtle shading. The melody seems modest on the surface, yet beneath its simplicity lies a quiet emotional pull that grows through attentive listening. Rather than dramatic contrast, the prelude offers inward reflection within the Romantic piano tradition. Its small scale conceals an expressive world of poise and nuance. In performance, the piece depends on touch, balance, and patience, ultimately revealing LYADOV’s poetic voice through understatement and control. 👍 Enjoying this?
