Adonis Blue (Lysandra bellargus) butterflies basking in the sun.
Provence Hairstreak (Tomares ballus), family Lycaenidae, found in northern Africa and SW Europe
photograph by @yaylalperen
picked up an eastern tailed blue today and the way it immediately drew in its legs was so cute... reminded me of a kitten getting picked up by the scruff of its neck for some reason. then i wanted a kitten-sized lycaenid
He is green because he can be placed there
Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
Think butterflies are harmless? Think again! The North American harvester butterfly is the only carnivorous species of butterfly in North America; while the adults feed on the traditional diet of nectar, the caterpillars feed exclusively on aphids. Even more metal, they will protect themselves from the ants that tend to the aphids by covering themselves in the carcasses of their prey, which fools the ants into thinking they're just another aphid.
