Solanum pennellii is a species of wild tomato native to the Galápagos Islands, Peru, and northern Chile. It is being extensively studied for its drought resistance and other traits in an effort to improve the cultivated tomato, Solanum lycopersicum.

This is a bit I did for a tomato festival in Nashville, TN. There's an anthology that they're putting together for it and I was asked if I wanted to toss in, thus 'Lycopersicum'. Titled after the original name for tomatoes, I wanted something that hinted back to that name while still staying true to the tomato itself. I personally believe we should go back to calling them wolf peaches. That's definitely the WAY cooler option :)

I can see why the first cabbage head European saw the tomato plant and thought to themselves, solo para werewolves!

Perhaps most surprising is the derivation of the species name for tomato, lycopersicum. Somewhat unexpectedly, the Greek lykos means wolf and persicon peach so it is literally a wolfpeach.
