lyney analysis ….. thing. TW: talk of suicide

— first off, he is NOT A TWINK. HE IS NOT A TWINK HE IS NOT A GAY HOPELESS TWINK

PERSONALITY (?) ANALYSIS:

— most people tend to brush this off completely which upsets me so i will take it into my own hands. in short, he is suicidal. in his performances, specifically the life performance, it is almost always him putting himself on the line. when he protected freminet and lynette, it was definitely because he cares about them (that part is true) but also that he just .. didnt care if he died.

— one of the main parts of his character is his facade. he feels the need to constantly perform, to constantly be on some sort of stage to protect lynette and to also not receive backlash for his true self.

— another part of his character is how responsible he is. for lynette’s safety, for freminet, for traveler aswell—that is undeniable, but he also runs from responsibility. with his suicidal ideation, especially during the life performance we can see he isnt all that happy to be here. for someone who is so protective you’d think he would do everything in his power to stay alive for the people whom he’d want to protect, but that isnt the case. he runs to the first chance he gets if it means he could end up not living, but he covers it with wanting to protect. in a sense, i think he holds some sort of resent towards lynette and freminet. for someone who is constantly taking care of them, and doesnt seem to quite get the exact same thing back, anybody would be tired. which we see without his facade that he is, infact, tired.

— obviously i am not saying he hates freminet or lynette as that obviously isnt true, but he does deep down probably yearn to get the same care back from them. he knows he cant ask, he knows its selfish to want it, and since he wont properly communicate it leads to mild resentment.

Can we talk about the real Lyney rq?

Real Lyney at most is introverted or ambiverted. I feel like he has his own modes as well, but he doesn't mention them unless you're REALLY CLOSE.

Real! Lyney honestly has trouble finding a distinction between Celebrity Lyney and Real Lyney.

I feel like Real Lyney at some points is more sassy than Lynette.

Real! Lyney lets Lynette take ahold of situatioms when he shuts off his Magician persona.

He goes out in plain clothes when he has time off. Usually he sits at a café reading, or he sits somewhere higher up.

Real! Lyney speaks in a softer but firm tone like Lynette.

He always checks in on his siblings, and keeps an ear out to where every last one is located through out the week.

"The sometimes I think people would feel sorry for the real me, def makes me think of a few things."

Canonically Lyney has a low self esteem. He has dreams abt being beheades bro, ofc its low esteem!

He only acts like he's worth sometimes when he's out here being, Celerbity Lyney, Fontaine's famed Magician.

When curtains are closed and no audience, he returns to introverted Lyney who only did this to repay debts he owes, and to help Family.

Like how he has his own modes, sometimes I imagine when overwhelmed, and Lynette is around, she'll bluntly end the Conversation.

His own modes I Imagine are;

Transition Mode: From Introverted Lyney to Celebrated Magician (his version of Lynette's chat mode)

Standby: Him being alone with his thoughts during a break

Rest Mode: (Mode meant to de transition from Mag to regular Lyney)

lyney & lynette: the matter of the assistant

[before excited word vomit, i want to emphasize that i am not a professional linguist. i'm a chinese-american person who can read moderately (and practicing) but speaks/hears the language better. the phrase i'm talking about is on a similar reading/contextual level to what i consider myself to be familiar with, but if i'm missing grammatical/lingual background, please tell me!]

one last thing about as light rain falls without reason -

in the eng trailer, lyney introduces lynette as "my wonderful assistant."

however, in the og cn trailer, he introduces her as "my most important assistant." [italics added to emphasize the description]

this is really interesting to me because it makes me wonder about lynette's part in the water tank disappearing act. she looks reluctant to go in, hesitating before taking the dive (not to mention what sounds like a very monotone "ta-da" in her cn intro)...but it doesn't seem like anyone else can do the job except for her. lyney seems to be at the forefront of their performace, the emcee, if you will. but we haven't seen him do any of the more stunts lynette does - primarily the one we've been shown, the drowning tank.

and freminiet doesn't seem like he wants to be involved in anything the twins are doing at all. per his helmet, he seems to be content to block out the spectacle and just...be void. (lol)

i also want to add that right before lynette dives into the tank, there's a cut to the icewind suite automatons placing their hands together. like a reminder of an agreement she made with lyney, or a cause she's committed to - and then she dives.

lyney needs lynette. not just for their performances - for whatever they're doing under arlecchino's hand, whatever the fatui are planning in fontaine. lynette, i feel, is the lynchpin. without her, lyney's scheme can't go through.

so, i'm just saying...depending on how our dynamics play out with the fatui in this archon quest (because what's up with childe? and, more importantly, where is his vision??), lynette might just be the person we need to convince/turn for everything to turn out all right.
