Each volume of Made in Abyss has a different character on the printed copy's spine, and these illustrations can be found on a glossy color page in the manga... save for the first three volumes, which may have been on a separate manga cover?
I've cleaned them up and erased the background elements, just in case you need some cute MiA chibi PNGs!
The first three volumes didn't have a digital version available, so I had to do a bit of smoothing and color correction in Clip Studio Paint. I did my best, yet they're a bit lower quality than the digitals.
Thanks to Onyx for sending me a good quality scan of the Volume 3 Nanachi! 💜
Since that Made in Abyss movie announcement, I wnated to reshare an old art piece I did of Maaa but absolutely jacked because Maaa is beautiful and I love them ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looking at pretty flags is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine, so I decided to take a crack at a pro-fiction flag for fun! I will write the meanings of the colors below, but there is also a picture listing them. (Also Nanachi x3)
The meanings of the colors are as follows:
DARK red: The dark and taboo nature of many targeted ships/kinks
Red: The passionate protection of victims of abuse
(which includes keeping predators out of our space as well)
Orange: The joy of self-expression and creativity
Yellow: The freedom to ship whether to cope or for fun
Mint: The peace of knowing that our fictional interests
are natural and do not make us wrong
Blue: The confidence in knowing that the science is on our side
Continued elaboration below if anyone is interested! ^u^
Why the super dark red? I really loved the idea of having one stripe of darkness "invading" the flag, which was inspired by a lovely flag I found on Instagram by comshippy! (The 8th and 9th slides)
The red stripe is very important because I strongly reject the attempts by many "proshippers" to drag irl harm into the shipcourse. If you have opinions on paraphilias or consang, whatever, but THAT is not part of profiction, nor is propaganda. It's about FICTION, not REALITY.
The orange stripe is for the part of profiction that is just about enjoying yourself and your fictional interests. Writing those darkfics, shipping all the things you love, finding comfort in your favorite dynamics and characters, etc. Existing in fandom as you please. <3
The yellow stripe is all about accepting each other regardless of our backgrounds or WHY we have these kinks/ships. If it's to cope with trauma, that's great! If you just enjoy darkfic for fun, that's also great! No one has a right to judge whether you can have dark interests.
The mint stripe is meant to invoke nature, trees, grass, etc. because it's a reminder that you are not "unnatural", you do not need to be "corrected", etc. It's PERFECTLY natural to develop strange interests in response to the messed up world we live in, and you are okay.
Finally, the blue stripe is another reminder, that we also have the science, facts, and research backing us up. Professionals in psychology agree with us, studies have revealed that kinks ≠ desires/morals, and fandom history debunks the slander to our stance. So worry not!
I really like the other proship flags I've seen as well, but you know me, I like to take stuff and run with it!
This flag represents both the discourse we ended up having to deal with in response to the rise of fantis, and the nature of our fictional interests. Hope you enjoy!
