Absolutely, prior to Ell and the coffin Carmilla was the dean's favorite and she lived quite the lavish lifestyle. Plus if what Mattie suggested with Carmilla's multiple attempts at saving people she liked can be trusted, she was even sometimes allowed to disobey orders. In addition, we can also infer that the people Carmilla tried to save weren't all sacrifice candidates, since the male poet she tried to save doesn't fit the criteria
Yup, all true. And it adds to the complexity of Carmilla’s character. I don’t really understand when people or fics paint Carmilla as uncaring when she tried to save people she wasn’t in love with and before she met Laura. She does care, just cautiously and sparingly because if you live forever and your family is big on murder, caring is a dangerous pastime.
