I woke up this morning, heard the wind howling, and thought, ‘no’. Okay, it was only raining on and off, and you can call me a wuss, but it did not look enticing out there at all. What’s more, the finish line for the big City to Surf marathon, half-mara, and 12km fun run was just down the road, which meant closures and traffic funneled down alternate routes. So I avoided the weather and the grumpy traffic congestion and did eighty-five minutes on the trainer! I typed out 85 minutes in full to give maximum italics emphasis.
Not only that, I did the Strava Epic Climb video training session - intervals and hill climbs over 34km - it was hard work. It was also kind of fun pretending to chase down Aussie champion Cadel Evans in a time trial. Phew! It’s hard maintaining focus on the trainer so it was good having the encouragement, goals and countdown until the downhill! I earned my banana, pb and honey on spelt toast recovery snack, washed down with a probiotic shot of Kefir.
After last week’s bomb, things went better this week. I got in my three rides; exceeded my 90km distance goal; completed a 4.6km run (just 400m short of my 5K goal but my knee locked up); I got to my early morning Thai-X-Fit class on Thursday and kicked butt! I even backed up that trainer session with some weights in the afternoon: lat pull-downs, Bulgarian split squats, fit ball chest flies, and I picked up that yellow kettlebell for some goblet squats.
The scales were positive too. I stepped back from the brink with a 1.5kg weight loss and 0.8% fat reduction. So that’s 300g and 0.1% until I am back to baseline, which I will smash next week!
No progress on my healthy habit goal but a new push begins on 1 September - the first day of Spring - new beginnings.
