Selina how do you loose weight?
It is a question I often receive. Probably because weight gain is seen much when showing the belly as much as I do as a belly dancer. But also because I move up and down in weight a lot. The truth is simply that I love food and I'm an "emotional eater". I eat when I feel sad and I eat when I'm happy. Food enhances life. Had I not been a belly dancer I probably would have been happy with my weight as it is now, or even a higher weight. But even if people do not want to admit it, it is the importance of the weight or rather the look of the body is a considerable part of the dancer's presentation. Both on stage and in the dance studio. So I think I should keep a certain weight to portray me exactly as I want as a dancer. This, combined with periods of intense dancing have done that I sometimes lose 20 kilograms, and sometimes gain as much. Now with grief after the loss of my father, I have for example managed to "eat me up" to an undesirable size again. But it is going down. 6 kg less and I'm satisfied. For me it was never about being a size zero. It's more about a size where I feel comfortable in my belly dance costumes and think my movements look best with my body. When I want to lose weight, I skip carbs, almost all of them, it also makes me feel better. No sugar dips and more energy. I do eat a small amount of carbohydrates but only 5 grams a day, from vegetables or eggs. Everyone reacts the different but I have through the years discovered that this works best for me. Things I can eat on my diet: Fish and seafood Chicken and meat Healthy fats like butter, coconut oil and olive oil All vegetables that grow above ground as peppers, cucumbers, etc. Things I avoid Anything with sugar Potatoes, pasta, bread and rice Fruit (apart from berries) Yesterday I cooked a soup of cauliflower, chicken and a little cream. The day before, a meat stew with vegetables and cauliflower mash. It works to remove the carbohydrates you just have to think and be creative. I have never liked the fruit very much, have a hard time liking sweet "food", so to remove the fruit works well for me. I do eat an occasional avocado. Obviously, this must be combined with a lot of movement and water.
