My heart almost stopped the other day, because hers almost did, too. A typical day. I was sitting outside our apartment complex with some close friends (who also live here). Maggie loves to play with the kids in our complex, so we sit outside often. Maggie is obsessed with fetch, and when she sees someone she knows, she immediately runs up to them with the ball. A fellow tenant walked out of his building, and Maggie ran up to him with her ball. See, I’ve met this guy before, and spoken to him. He’s never once asked me if he could go up to my animals, but he always went up to them anyway. He had gone up to Duke once, and Duke barked at him, which was super rare for him to do—he was such a quiet dog and I only ever heard him bark maybe 20 times while I had had him. He had gone up to Mari and tried to give me radical advice about her ears, which were being treated for ear mites by her vet at the time. He had gone up to Maggie while I was doing some training, which had messed up our whole day’s progress. I should have been concerned. I don’t know what was going through his head, or why he would do it, but he did. Instead of throwing the ball behind him into the HUGE yard, he threw it towards the busy road. Keep in mind that it probably went a good 60-70 feet. It had to pass the yard, AND the parking lot to get to the road. Maggie, being the ball-obsessed dog she is, ran after it. A silver vehicle was driving down the road and thankfully, it stopped. One second later, and Maggie would have been hit, potentially killed. Three more feet... the thought shakes me to my core. I unfroze from my spot, and I screamed. I cursed. “Why would you do that?!” I yelled. I ran towards my dog, who had no idea what had just happened. I could hear my friends behind me, yelling, but all I could think of was Maggie. I held her close. I turned around. I was upset. The guy look dumbfounded. One of my best friends, who also lives in the complex, heard the fuss and came outside. I’m thankful that my dog gets to see another day. Please, for the sake of all things holy, do not touch someone’s dog without asking first... It doesn’t matter who you think you are. #maggiemoothemutt https://www.instagram.com/p/CFkKuO7lNIn/?igshid=fsbxhwsnqlek
