Thoughts About Supernatural/Magical Policing

I’m always interested in whether stories with fantasy elements should have an element of police or rule enforcement. Sometimes we see this in terms of an actual task force that supervises, other times its a council of elders or an authority figure. Vigilante group-types also come up. But there’s also been plenty ideas around supernatural hunters—regular people who take it upon themselves to do the policing in their place.

And it always makes me wonder how much more efficient would all those groups be if they worked together. Of course that’s unlikely, but the politics of it always interests me and is kind of amusing. I imagine hunters and councils of elders arguing over who has jurisdiction and the like. Or maybe some groups only stick to their kind while others look over everyone.

When considering it even in high fantasy as well, there’s usually a separate treatment for the magically inclined or non-regular human people. How many groups does one need to police everything? Does it change between urban and high fantasy just due to the more hidden nature of creatures and magic in urban fantasy?

Just, ugh, I love worldbuilding thoughts.

Hey Yogblr, do any of y’all have a comprehensive (or even just semi-comprehensive) list of all of Lalna’s clones? Canon or speculative? Or even like characters you HC to be his clone?

I wanna do a drawing with all of them but I can only come up with 4 Lalnas(not including other mcyt characters I HC to be Lalna clones)

This was supposed to be based on this post about @hyperspecific-blackrock’s Start Over AU (specifically the possibility of Lalnable and Magic Police!Lalna being part of the Lalna Singularity), but it didn’t turn out how I wanted it to :/
