[sms; mai<3] Just landed at LAX, and I miss you already. When does your spring break start? I’ve got a bottle of champagne with our names on them.

Renée took a deep breath. Mai was right, she knew it, yet she couldn't help but lose it when someone she cared about put themselves in danger.
"You're right." She sounded almost defeated. It was unlike her to just give up and admit Mai was right, but she had done it, so it was time for her to take a step back and try to make amendments.
Mai wandered over and handed Shay a neatly wrapped present. Inside was a book on the chemistry of cooking and tucked inside the book were tickets for a trip allowing Shay and her wife to visit their daughter for a week. The time off had already been approved. "Happy birthday."
Shay blinked and smiled as Mai handed her the present, heart warming to see that her lodger had gotten her a present. The thought alone touched Shay, but when she opened the present up to see not only the perfect book for her, but the tickets for her and her wife, a soft gasp escaped her lips. She covered her mouth with her hand before looking over at Mai and wrapping her in a quick tight hug. She stepped back quickly and cleared her throat“Sorry, I know that’s not really your thing, but it was just…Thank you. Honestly and truly Mai, thank you.”

Thanks for feeding my ego, kiddos :3 And I'm glad I'm not the only one who knows all of it, because it would make me kind of sad if I was, tbh. It was my favorite for like 2 years after it came out.
'Spitting Teeth' ((either a weird AU or artifact because no way this would ever happen normally))
Shay wasn’t expecting the punch otherwise there was no way she would’ve ducked it. She stumbled slightly as the punch connected but was almost instantly on the defensive. Shay hooked a leg behind Mai, and slammed a forearm into her stomach before shoving her back, tripping her and sending Mai into the floor. Shay was on her an instant later in a crouch, the majority of her weight pinning Mai’s legs down. One leg pinned Mai’s wrist to the floor and Shay had her other wrist in her hand. Once Mai was pinned, Shay turned her head and spat to the side, watching as a bloody mass flew out. She raised and eyebrow and looked down at the agent in her charge. “Good hit. You’re not getting another.”
"Renèe, I have something to discuss with you."
"Okay. Wait. Did I-- Did I do something wrong? I mean--"
((for the finding a hickey)) "You, uh," Mai coughs and clears her throat. "You have something, there," she states, pointing slightly at Shay's neck. The blush that shoots up on her cheeks for mentioning something so personal causes her freckles to stand out more. "In case you wanted to do something about it."
Shay raised an eyebrow at Mai, wondering what on earth she was talking about, when Mai pointed to her neck. Her eyes widened and she quickly slapped her hand over the bruise. “Dammit Audrey” she grumbled before looking up at Mai with an embarrassed smile. “Um. Sorry, my wife she can be-” Shay cut herself off “You know what never mind, I’ll go take care of this, sorry and thank you!” Shay said quickly before nearly running from the room, her cheek bright red from embarrasment.
