ohhh my god thank you for asking this, happy to talk about kinn/vegas bad idea stuff, I may have posted my actual fic but that doesn't mean I'm done thinking about it

What made you ship it?

Like I said, I'm pretty sure the second Kinn and Vegas first interacted my reaction was "oh this is spicy" and it was only downhill from there. I cut my teeth cousin-shipping dysfunctional family members who are politically at odds in Silm fandom so really I'm just coming back to my roots here.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

God!!! I feel like I...am struggling to articulate this very well, still, but I think it's about the ways in which it is...a physical manifestation that further underlines the ugly, dysfunctional way that the inter-family conflict has fucked everybody up, and also characters sublimating their feelings into sex, the more fucked up the better, particularly considering the ways in which Kinn for Vegas is almost more a symbol than a person, and Vegas's fucked up relationship with his own sexuality (it's a weapon first and foremost, I think; something he can use more than something that's really his) and the way that I think around the minor family Kinn's better nature starts to get a little tangled up with all the history and baggage between them, and sex as power, and...

How long was that sentence? I'm not going to look back and find out.

I just think that...there was a line in no tenderness where Vegas was thinking about how having sex with Kinn is just cutting out the middleman of what he's been doing with Kinn's lovers. Which was a very fun thing to think about. It's another layer on the "everything I can do he can do better" thing that Vegas has going on with Kinn, and trying to prove that's not true because he is going to win at sex. Then there's Kinn just responding to that by falling into the exact same construction where there is something to win here, which there isn't.

Nobody wins! Everybody's losing! Nobody's getting any satisfaction out of this in a real sense! It's great.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

As far as I can tell it's just not a very popular ship. :( But I don't know that I have unpopular/controversial opinions outside of that, partly because I don't know a lot about what other peoples' opinions are. I guess one thing I feel like I might say is that I'm very attached to the fact that, while Kinn is overall a decent guy, I think Vegas specifically brings out something very ugly in him, and I think Kinn is aware of that, and I think that is possibly another source of tension specifically in the way of not just "I don't like you" but also "I don't like who I am around you."

Do you ever read two Fanfics that are very different, but somehow gives you similar vibes?!

Like... they only share the same characters, but gives you inexplicably similar vibes?!

Because that's what is happening to me reading the two series "Checkmate" by majestictortoise and "A Wholeness" by 99_9.

Just based on the tags they're obviously different, but there's something, that I still can't pinpoint, that makes their vibes similar...

🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?

any/all fandoms, whichever you feel like talking about!

oh man I feel like I'm such a chicken though in that when I find characters really difficult to write I just end up avoiding writing them. because I was just thinking about it though (and keep running into it, for obvious reasons) I'm going to say that I have a really hard time writing Porsche and I feel weird about it, because I feel like it shouldn't be as hard for me as it is and yet I do not feel like I can get a satisfying handle on his character that makes me feel confident in how I'm writing him.

also Wei Wuxian, actually. it's weird because he was definitely the first character I latched onto in that canon, and yet I don't think I've ever felt confident in my ability to write him, particularly from his own perspective. and it's not an unreliable narrator thing! I really don't know what it is, I just have a hard time feeling like I've got a solid grip on his voice. I feel like I can write him from outside fine enough but trying to dig into his actual head is weirdly difficult.

maybe I have a protagonist problem, is what this sort of starts to look like.

other characters I have struggled to write in the past...mostly comes back to "characters I have avoided writing because the prospect of trying is daunting to me", which is a category that includes, among others, Lan Xichen.

oh!! a character I do write a fair amount who is actually somewhat difficult for me to access is Xiao Xingchen, who is easily the one of the Yi City quadrant who I feel least comfortable in terms of writing from his perspective.

which I think is more often where I struggle with writing characters - less writing them in general, more when I am writing from their perspective, because my third person limited tends to get pretty deep into the head of whoever my point of view character is, which requires me to feel fairly comfortable in my sense of "how does this character think, how do they see the world, how do they perceive the people around them" and for some characters that is much harder than others. it isn't necessarily a function of how much I like them, either - there are a number of characters who I don't necessarily like but who I find fairly easy to write, Tony Stark being a notable one. maybe it has to do with proximity to me and my own mental processes? probably that's at least part of it.

which, if that is the case, doesn't necessarily say anything good about me when it comes to the characters whose perspectives I find very easy to access, orz.

fave vegaspete post-canon headcanon/scenario, interpreted however you wish.

I feel like I'm writing a fic right now that's basically gone from "coherent narrative" to "loose collection of my favorite vegaspete post-canon headcanons/scenarios" and what I'm learning is that there are really a lot to choose from.

I think I might have to go with the classic "Pete takes Vegas to visit his grandma" though, because there's so much fraught potential there in so many ways. the dramatic irony alone! but then also the Vegas experience of "city boy in his boyfriend's rural hometown" and Pete being really self-conscious about the disparity between his background and Vegas's, and the whole thing just feels ripe for all kinds of crunchy emotional stuff. which is, of course, my entire jam

And WELL, my favourite KinnPorsche character is of course KORN! The best father figure ever invented. Love that terrific old man. He should continue being a beacon of bumbling benevolence forever and ever amen 🙏

As for least favourite... hmm that would have to be a tie between Tankhun and Kim! Can't stand those guys, honestly. Love to never ever think about them for one single second of my life!! Tbh!!

Definitely, without a doubt, Tankhun (...as is perhaps evident from how central a role he plays in the majority of the KP fics I've published 👀). I just find him so endlessly interesting as a character, with all those crunchy layers of his personality to delve into and unravel, but at the same time his voice is just such fun to write!! It's a combination that's catnip to me personally, and, furthermore: I just love him 🥺🥰
