Talking about squibs, muggleborns, etc. How does it work in muggle families where only one of a number of children has magic? Are the siblings considered squibs or muggles? Since the parents have the ability to birth a magical child do the siblings also have some powers but maybe not enough to go to Hogwarts?
I would count the siblings as muggles. One parent needs to have significant magic in order for a child to be considered a squib.
I do not know if magic is a gradient or more like an off/on switch. I used to firmly hold the belief that it is a gradient, with mudbloods at the bottom and purebloods at the top. It was what was taught, what common lore stated, what the studies indicated...
But I have taken other evidence in hand and now wonder that it may very well be an off/on switch, with other factors, such as ambition, talent, and intelligence, counting for how skilled of a witch or wizard they are. The implications of this would be...altering.
